Full Stack Developer (Frontend Leaning)

About Zazu Systems

Zazu Systems develops software for the life sciences and clinical research industry. Our platform helps organisations discover and manage clinical outcome assessment instruments, licensing, translations, documents, and research projects.

Role Overview

The Full Stack Developer is primarily focused on frontend development, building responsive, accessible, and user-friendly features across Zazu's production applications. The developer is also expected to contribute to backend services, APIs and database functionality when required.

The role works closely with Product, QA, and other engineers to deliver reliable solutions from initial planning through development, testing, and release.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain frontend features using React, Next.js, and TypeScript.

  • Create responsive, accessible, and reusable user-interface components, including keyboard support and screen-reader labels.

  • Use React Query to manage server state, data fetching, caching, and API updates.

  • Integrate frontend functionality with backend services and REST APIs.

  • Contribute to backend development and database functionality when needed.

  • Work with authentication and role-based permissions.

  • Create and maintain Cypress component and end-to-end tests.

  • Use agentic coding tools to support development, investigation, testing, and documentation.

  • Review and validate AI-generated code to ensure it meets security, quality and maintainability standards.

  • Investigate and resolve frontend, backend, and data-related issues.

  • Review code and provide constructive feedback.

  • Address security vulnerabilities and safely upgrade dependencies.

  • Participate in sprint planning, technical discussions, and releases.

  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and QA throughout feature development.

Skills and Experience

  • At least two years of professional software-development experience.

  • Strong experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and Next.js.

  • Experience using React Query for server-state management.

  • Experience creating and maintaining Cypress end-to-end and component tests.

  • Ability to use agentic coding tools effectively and responsibly.

  • Ability to review, test, and understand AI-generated code rather than relying on it without verification.

  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and responsive web development, including utility CSS libraries such as Tailwind.

  • Experience integrating frontend applications with REST APIs.

  • Experience with Git and pull-request workflows.

Nice to Have

  • Experience building Node.js APIs in TypeScript (NestJS or similar).

  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB.

  • Experience with third-party authentication providers such as Auth0.
