About ZOVU
Restaurants have enough to worry about. Their software shouldn't be one of those things.
At ZOVU, we're building the Operating System for the modern restaurant. Our vision is simple: one connected platform bringing together Point of Sale, reservations, loyalty, staff operations, and the customer experience.
And we're doing things differently.
Instead of charging restaurants expensive monthly subscriptions, our business model is built around transactions. When restaurants grow, we grow with them.
We're an early-stage, fully remote startup preparing for our first restaurant launches. There's already a product in development, a team building it, and plenty of ambitious work ahead.
If you enjoy creating things that people will actually use, you'll feel at home here.
The Role
We're looking for an ambitious Full Stack Developer Intern to help build the applications and systems behind ZOVU.
This isn't an internship where you'll spend three months watching someone else code.
You'll contribute to real software, develop new features, improve existing functionality, investigate problems, and work alongside our engineering team to bring ZOVU closer to launch.
You'll work across both frontend and backend development, turning ideas and product requirements into functional features that restaurant owners, staff, and customers can depend on.
We're looking for someone with at least 2 years of practical development experience. This can include previous internships, freelance work, professional experience, or substantial personal projects.
You don't need to be a senior developer, but you should have already built working applications and be comfortable contributing to an existing codebase.
We're not looking for someone who knows every framework. We're looking for someone who knows how to build.
What Excites You
- Building Something from the Ground Up: You enjoy turning ideas into working software and watching a product come together.
- Creating Complete Features: You like working on both the interface people interact with and the systems that make it work.
- Solving Real Problems: You enjoy investigating technical challenges, understanding why something doesn't work, and finding better solutions.
- Taking Ownership: You're excited to take responsibility for your work rather than wait for instructions at every step.
- Learning Through Experience: You want to strengthen your skills by contributing to real projects alongside experienced developers.
- Startup Life: You enjoy an environment where ideas matter, priorities evolve, and your contributions make a difference.
What Excites Us
- 4+ Years of Practical Experience: You have at least two years of hands-on development experience through internships, freelance work, employment, or substantial personal projects, with working applications or meaningful software contributions to demonstrate your experience.
- Frontend Fundamentals: You're comfortable developing web applications using React, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
- Backend Fundamentals: You have practical experience with Node.js, APIs, and working with databases.
- Full Stack Development: You've connected frontend interfaces to backend functionality and understand how different parts of an application work together.
- Real Ownership: You can clearly explain what you personally built, the decisions you made, and the challenges you encountered.
- Practical Problem-Solving: You've encountered development problems, investigated their causes, and worked toward functioning solutions.
- Development Practices: You're familiar with Git and GitHub and understand the importance of readable, maintainable code.
- Project Management & Collaboration: You're familiar with tools such as Jira and comfortable using them to manage tasks, track progress, and collaborate with a development team.
- Independence: You can make progress on assigned work, communicate blockers, and ask useful questions when needed.
- Communication: You're comfortable collaborating in English with a remote, international team.
Bonus points: Experience contributing to production applications, business software, SaaS platforms, or products used by real customers.
We care more about what you've actually built than a long list of technologies on your CV.
You don't need advanced engineering knowledge or experience managing a development team. But you should already understand the fundamentals of developing functional applications and be ready to build on that experience.
Internship Details & Growth
This is a hands-on internship where you'll develop your full stack engineering skills through practical work, technical guidance, and collaboration with our engineering team.
- Duration: Three months.
- Location: 100% remote, subject to local internship eligibility requirements.
- Availability: Approximately 32 hours per week preferred.
- Compensation: Unpaid for the three-month internship, where legally permitted under an appropriate internship arrangement.
- Start Date: As soon as possible. You must be able to start within three months of applying.
- Working Style: Primarily asynchronous collaboration, with clear responsibilities and regular communication.
- Potential Paid Opportunity: Strong-performing interns may be considered for a transition into a paid position after the internship, depending on performance, mutual fit, company needs, and available budget. This is a potential opportunity, not a guaranteed employment offer.
The Good Stuff!
- Real Product Experience: Contribute to an actual software platform preparing for its first restaurant launches.
- End-to-End Development: Gain practical experience building features across frontend and backend systems.
- Meaningful Responsibilities: Work on features that matter, not just practice assignments.
- Direct Access to the Team: Collaborate with developers, exchange ideas, and receive feedback on your work.
- Room to Grow: Strengthen your development skills through real technical challenges and hands-on learning.
- Flexible Remote Work: Take ownership of your schedule and responsibilities while keeping the team informed.
- Your Work Matters: Join at an early stage where individual contributions can have a visible impact.
- International Experience: Work with an international team building a product with global ambitions.
- Potential Career Growth: If there's a strong mutual fit, the internship could be the beginning of a longer-term career with ZOVU.
Life at ZOVU
We're a remote team connected by one ambition: making restaurant operations simpler through better technology.
We value people who take initiative, communicate openly, care about their work, and enjoy solving problems together.
We believe good ideas can come from anyone. You don't need years of corporate experience to make a meaningful contribution.
You'll have the opportunity to share ideas, challenge assumptions, and help shape how the product develops.
We encourage independent thinking, but we also believe that asking questions, learning from others, and understanding your own code are essential parts of becoming a great developer.
You don't need to have every answer. But you should be curious enough to find them.
We're building something ambitious, and we'd love to have people on board who are excited to help make it happen.
How to Apply
Ready to build something restaurants will depend on?
We'd love to see what you can bring to ZOVU.
Apply through the job posting or send your application to HR@zovuhq.com.
Please include your CV, GitHub or relevant project examples, and brief answers to these three questions.
1. Show us what you've built.
Share one or two applications or features you've personally developed involving frontend and backend functionality. What did you build, what was your specific contribution, and what does the application actually do?
Include a GitHub repository, live application, portfolio, or relevant project link whenever possible.
2. Tell us about a real challenge.
Describe a technical problem you personally encountered while developing an application. What was the problem, how did you approach solving it, and what was the result?
3. Your experience and availability.
Briefly describe your practical development experience, including how long you've been building applications.
Include your earliest start date, weekly availability, time zone, country of residence, and whether you can participate under the stated internship conditions.
If your previous work is private, you can describe your contribution without sharing confidential information.
We value concrete examples, genuine development experience, and your own words over perfectly polished applications.
Let's build something restaurants will depend on.
