Software Engineer

Cerbo · OptiMantra | Remote, US (Eastern Time Zone) | Full time | Applications close November 5

Compensation: $140,000 - $180,000

About Cerbo · OptiMantra

Cerbo is a leading EHR built for independent practices, including functional medicine, integrative medicine, longevity, wellness, direct primary care, and concierge practices. Founded in 2010 and headquartered in Atlanta, GA, Cerbo gives practitioners a single, flexible platform for clinical documentation, scheduling, billing, and patient engagement, built around the way independent, personalized-care practices design their visits and workflows. As a combined company, Cerbo · OptiMantra is advancing AI-powered solutions, CRM capabilities, and enhanced payments offerings for independent practices.

About the role

This is a full-stack engineering role on a team Cerbo is hiring this fall to build its product roadmap and support it as it reaches the practitioners who depend on the platforms. You'll work in Java and Spring across back-end services and front-end features.

AI Scribe, the clinical documentation tool built natively into the Cerbo EHR, is the first step on that roadmap. It gives practitioners less time at the keyboard and more time with their patients. The tools this team builds give providers time back, help their practices grow, and improve the care delivered to the millions of patients the platforms serve every year.

What you'll own

  • Build and maintain full-stack applications in Java and Spring
  • Ship front-end interfaces and user-facing features as a regular part of the role, alongside back-end work
  • Write clean, maintainable, testable code, and give and receive code reviews, incorporating the feedback
  • Deploy applications and own their ongoing maintenance
  • Work across the full development lifecycle, from requirements gathering through deployment and maintenance
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other developers, and communicate with management, customers, and other teams, so what ships meets their needs
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices

What we're looking for

  • We're looking for an engineer who has owned production systems, works comfortably on both sides of the stack, and uses AI coding tools with judgment.
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with increasing scope and ownership over time
  • Back-end or full-stack experience in professional settings: APIs, services, middleware, or data layer ownership
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with tools such as Git and Docker
  • Experience with one or more cloud providers, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and familiarity with their services and APIs
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively on a remote team
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

AI fluency

  • Demonstrated experience using AI coding assistants in a professional or project setting
  • Ability to write clear, specific prompts that produce useful outputs
  • Strong critical evaluation skills: able to identify subtle bugs, inefficiencies, or security issues in generated code
  • Understanding of AI limitations, including hallucinations, outdated patterns, and context window constraints

Location

This role is 100% remote within the United States. The team works Eastern business hours alongside our Atlanta-based teams and the practices we support, so you'll need to live in the US Eastern Time Zone. This is a residency requirement, not a schedule preference: candidates who live outside the Eastern Time Zone, in the US or abroad, will not be considered. US work authorization is required.

Hiring process

Provn is our hiring partner. The successful candidate selected for interview will be asked to show how they work through a real reliability problem: the design trade-offs they chose and why, what breaks at scale and how the design changes as infrastructure grows, documentation a teammate could follow without asking a single follow-up question, and a specific moment where they redirected or rejected what an AI coding tool produced.

If you have a project example already, great! If you do not, complete the API Rate Limiter Design Under Constraints challenge on Provn.co to strengthen your candidacy. Cerbo is looking for proactive, AI-fluent builders, and completing the challenge before anyone asks is the clearest way to show you're one. Think of it as your way to the top of the candidate stack. You'll build rate-limiting middleware that keeps one client's traffic from slowing down everyone else, and explain where it breaks.

Benefits and perks

  • Competitive compensation: $140,000 - $180,000 based on experience
  • Paid Time Off and company holidays
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance
  • 401k plan with matching company contribution
  • Real ownership and impact in a fast-growing health tech company
