JOB SUMMARY:
The Full Stack Engineer designs, builds, deploys, and supports production-grade web applications that advance CareQuest Institute’s mission and organizational priorities. The role owns application features end to end, from technical design and backend services to user-facing experiences, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing improvement.
Working across product, data, analytics, and technology teams, the Full Stack Engineer develops secure, reliable, accessible, and maintainable applications using modern engineering practices. The role translates business and user needs into scalable technical solutions; integrates applications with enterprise data products and platforms; and helps ensure that CareQuest applications and services are reliable, well documented, and sustainable. Emerging capabilities may be incorporated when they provide clear user or organizational value, while the position remains focused on sound application architecture, usability, performance, observability, and operational reliability.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, build, test, and maintain full-stack web applications, including backend services, REST APIs, background tasks, and integrations with internal and external systems.
- Develop responsive, accessible, testable, and user-centered frontend experiences using React and modern JavaScript or TypeScript practices.
- Build and maintain backend services using Python and FastAPI or comparable technologies, with attention to code organization, authentication, authorization, asynchronous processing, and performance.
- Deploy, operate, monitor, and troubleshoot applications in Microsoft Azure, including configuration, scaling, security, observability, and incident response.
- Implement secure integrations with Azure services such as App Services, Storage, Key Vault, Application Insights, Azure Functions, and related platform components.
- Partner with product owners, designers, data professionals, analysts, and other engineers to translate organizational priorities and user needs into technical designs and working solutions.
- Integrate applications and APIs with enterprise data products, platforms, curated datasets, and reusable data services.
- Own and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines in GitHub, including automated testing, code-quality checks, security checks, and deployment workflows.
- Apply software engineering best practices, including code review, unit and integration testing, documentation, logging, performance optimization, and maintainable architecture.
- Contribute to decisions about application architecture, frameworks, reusable patterns, development standards, and the long-term sustainability of CareQuest technology solutions.
- When appropriate, integrate intelligent or AI-enabled features using approved enterprise services and responsible development practices, with attention to reliability, privacy, safety, and measurable user value.
- Support security, privacy, accessibility, data governance, and compliance requirements applicable to CareQuest systems and data.
- Communicate technical concepts, implementation options, risks, and tradeoffs effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Continuously evaluate and improve application development tools, practices, documentation, and support processes.
- Perform other duties as needed or required.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, including experience building and supporting production systems.
- Strong software development skills in Python, including code organization, typing, packaging, testing, and asynchronous programming.
- Experience building backend APIs with FastAPI or a comparable framework, including routing, middleware, authentication, authorization, and asynchronous I/O.
- Hands-on experience developing frontend applications with React, including hooks, state management, API integration, and frontend testing.
- Experience deploying and operating web applications in Azure App Services or a similar platform-as-a-service environment.
- Practical experience with Git, GitHub, branching strategies, pull requests, code reviews, and GitHub Actions or comparable CI/CD tools.
- Understanding of web application architecture, HTTP, application security, caching, performance, and accessibility fundamentals.
- Experience working with relational or NoSQL databases and integrating data stores into application backends.
- Demonstrated ability to own features through design, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing support.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve issues across the full application stack.
- Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
Preferred:
- Experience with Azure observability tools and practices, including logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, and alerting.
- Experience with background processing technologies such as Azure Functions, queues, Celery, or RQ.
- Experience integrating large language models or other AI services into applications using Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Azure AI Search, LangChain, or comparable tools.
- Working knowledge of responsible AI development, including evaluation, structured outputs, guardrails, security, privacy, and strategies to reduce unreliable results.
- Experience with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, Azure, or comparable technologies.
- Experience in a mission-driven, consulting, health, data-intensive, or regulated environment.
- Familiarity with security, privacy, compliance, and licensing requirements for systems that handle sensitive or licensed data.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Incumbent must be able to communicate effectively.
- Manual dexterity and sitting is required in carrying out position responsibilities (i.e., use of personal computer).
- Ability to travel or move about within and outside serviced facilities required.
