Backed by $16M from top-tier investors, we operate a crypto prime brokerage processing over $7B in monthly volume, and Upshift — an retail yield platform with ~$500M TVL at peak, delivering vaults-as-a-service across 30+ chains. We are a small, senior team that ships fast, owns outcomes, and operates at the intersection of traditional finance and DeFi. Why This Role Matters We are hiring a Full Stack Engineer to own critical product surfaces end-to-end across both August (prime brokerage) and Upshift (retail yield platform) — from backend services that interact with smart contracts and DeFi protocols, to the frontend interfaces used by institutional traders, protocol teams, and vault depositors. You’ll be scoping, designing, and shipping features that directly impact revenue and protocol growth, with significant autonomy and minimal process overhead. What You’ll Own Design and implement backend services in Python that interface with on-chain protocols, indexers, and third-party APIs Own the integration layer between our systems and DeFi protocols — including vault interactions, liquidity routing, and cross-chain operations Build and maintain on-chain data indexing and processing pipelines that power our products Architect and build features across our prime brokerage and yield platforms, from database schema to API layer Contribute to frontend features in React/JavaScript when needed across our prime brokerage and yield products Drive technical decisions on system architecture, API design, and data modeling with direct input from engineering leadership Instrument, monitor, and optimize services for reliability at scale — our systems process real money 24/7 Collaborate closely with a small team of senior engineers, product, and the co-founders to shape the product roadmap What We’re Looking For 5–10 years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of owning and shipping full-stack products Strong proficiency in Python with working knowledge of JavaScript Hands-on experience building and deploying Web3 applications — DeFi protocols, dApps, or blockchain infrastructure Comfortable working in React codebases and contributing to frontend features when needed Experience designing and operating backend systems: REST/GraphQL APIs, microservices, message queues, relational and NoSQL databases Comfort working with blockchain tooling: Web3.js or Ethers.js/Viem, Solidity (reading and reviewing), smart contract ABIs, on-chain data indexing Strong opinions on code quality, testing, and system design — you’ve built systems that are sustainable and other engineers were happy to inherit Bias toward action and ownership — you take initiative, move fast without cutting corners, and don’t wait for permission to solve problems Even Better If You Have Experience at a crypto prime brokerage, trading firm, or DeFi protocol team Familiarity with vault architectures (ERC-4626), yield aggregation, or cross-chain bridging Background in building systems that handle financial transactions with strict accuracy and auditability requirements Experience with infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud platforms (AWS preferred) Contributions to open-source Web3 projects or a strong on-chain footprint Our Stack Languages: Python, JavaScript Backend: FastAPI, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Redis Frontend: React, Next.js, TailwindCSS Web3: Ethers.js, Viem/Wagmi, Hardhat, The Graph Infra: AWS, Docker, GitHub Actions, Terraform Our Approach to AI We actively integrate AI into our engineering workflow and expect every engineer to leverage AI tools (Copilot, Claude, Cursor, etc.) to move faster, write better code, and automate repetitive work.
