Fullstack Team Lead / Architect - Location: Amsterdam - Hybrid
We are looking for a hands-on Fullstack Team Lead / Architect to own technical direction, architecture, engineering quality, and technical execution for an assigned product group or internal software platform.
This is an opportunity for a senior technical leader who enjoys staying close to the technology — from architecture and coding through to production troubleshooting, technical design and mentoring engineers.
This is not a formal people management role. The focus is on technical leadership, architecture, engineering quality and delivery, working closely with Product, Engineering, QA, DevOps, Infrastructure and business stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a practical, execution-focused environment where systems are business-critical, some platforms may be legacy, and engineering ownership is continuing to evolve.
Depending on experience and business requirements, the role may focus on one or more of the following areas:
- Core Business Platforms: Enterprise workflows, integrations, SQL Server-backed systems, production stability, scalability and maintainability.
- NLP / AI: Text processing, data pipelines, model evaluation, taxonomy, AI-assisted tools and integration of NLP capabilities into business workflows.
- Mobile / Computer Vision: Mobile application architecture, image capture, computer vision integration, warehouse applications and field usability.
- Legacy Modernisation: Stabilisation, technical debt reduction, security improvements, integration clean-up and modernisation of legacy applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction, architecture and engineering quality for an assigned product group or platform.
- Lead technical design discussions, architecture reviews, work breakdown and implementation planning.
- Remain hands-on with coding, design, troubleshooting, technical reviews and production problem solving.
- Translate business priorities into practical technical solutions and delivery plans.
- Provide technical estimates, implementation options, dependency analysis and risk assessments.
- Review critical code changes and promote high standards for quality, maintainability, testability and documentation.
- Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews and hands-on technical coaching.
- Act as the L3 technical escalation point for complex defects and production issues.
- Lead technical root-cause analysis following production incidents.
- Identify technical debt, architectural weaknesses, single points of failure and maintainability risks.
- Develop pragmatic modernisation, refactoring and stabilisation strategies.
- Establish clear technical documentation and knowledge-transfer practices.
- Work with QA, DevOps, DBA, Infrastructure, Security and Product teams to define release-readiness expectations.
- Support the onboarding of engineers by explaining architecture, codebases, standards and system behaviour.
- Promote consistent engineering practices while remaining pragmatic about the needs of individual platforms.
What We're Looking For
- Solid experience in hands-on software engineering.
- Experience as a Technical Lead, Software Architect, Principal Engineer, Senior Engineer or similar.
- Strong hands-on development experience with the ability to contribute to code and troubleshoot production issues.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, API design, integration patterns, data modelling, scalability and maintainability.
- Experience designing and supporting business-critical production systems.
- Proven ability to lead technical design and implementation without formal people-management responsibility.
- Experience breaking complex technical work into practical delivery stages.
- Strong understanding of technical trade-offs and the ability to communicate recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience improving legacy systems and reducing technical debt.
- Practical knowledge of code review, testing, CI/CD and release processes.
- Experience working with Product, Engineering, QA, DevOps, Infrastructure, Security and business stakeholders.
- Strong mentoring and technical coaching skills.
- Excellent ownership, judgement and problem-solving abilities.
- Comfortable working with distributed teams across multiple locations and time zones.
