About The Company

TOUGH Training GmbH is a HOCHTIEF spin-off creating digital training experiences for the construction industry. Its gaming software transforms real workplace processes into interactive, practical learning modules that help employees prepare for everyday challenges in a safe environment. By simulating realistic situations without exposing learners to actual hazards, TOUGH Training supports more engaging learning and helps strengthen workplace safety.

HOCHTIEF is a technology-focused global infrastructure solutions provider with leading positions in North America, Australia, and Europe. The company is active in high-growth markets, including data centers, the energy transition, and sustainable infrastructure. At TOUGH Training, you will join a growing technology venture with the opportunity to contribute to a product that has a meaningful impact on how people learn.

About The Role

TOUGH Training GmbH is seeking a Junior Developer / Game Designer (all genders) to join its team in Essen or Würzburg. This is a permanent position suited to someone who enjoys working across both game design and development. You will help turn real construction processes into engaging 3D training scenarios, shaping how users learn, make decisions, and act within each module.

Working closely with developers, subject-matter experts, and product teams, you will contribute to the design and implementation of interactive training solutions built with Unity. The experiences are designed for the web, with virtual reality as an optional platform. This role offers creative ownership, technical responsibility, and the chance to help develop scalable products in an agile venture.

Qualifications

You have a degree in Games Engineering, Game Development, or a comparable qualification, together with solid practical experience in game design and Unity development. You bring good knowledge of C# and Unity, or a comparable game engine, and are familiar with areas such as scene setup, gameplay development, editor tools, and user interfaces.

You understand how to design intuitive, user-centered interactions and create clear, consistent experiences. Experience with 3D modeling, preferably using Blender or a similar tool, is an advantage. You work independently and pragmatically, approach new challenges with curiosity, and are comfortable contributing in a growing, fast-moving team. Fluency in both German and English is required.

Responsibilities

Design and develop interactive training modules that translate real processes into playable 3D scenarios using Unity. Create and refine scenario mechanics and gameplay that support clear, motivating, and consistent learning experiences. Collaborate with developers, subject-matter experts, and product teams to shape content and deliver solutions that meet both learning and product goals.

Optimize performance and usability across devices, ensuring that core gameplay functionality remains consistent. Contribute to code reviews and maintain clear technical and product documentation, keeping scalability in mind. Take an active role in improving the technology and user experience of the training platform.

Benefits

Enjoy competitive, transparent compensation, flexible working hours, and the option to work remotely. You will receive 30 days of annual leave, in addition to December 24 and 31 as non-working days. Mobility benefits include JobRad bicycle leasing and a contribution toward public transportation. Health support includes an EGYM Wellpass fitness subsidy and a company health management program with an occupational physician, health coordinators, and physiotherapy coaches.

Continue developing your skills through individualized training and professional development, including opportunities at the HOCHTIEF Academy and ACS University. You can also earn attractive rewards through the employee referral program. In addition, you will have the opportunity to influence a product with real-world impact, work in an agile environment with direct communication and quick feedback, and help a growing tech venture turn ideas into scalable solutions.

Equal Opportunity

TOUGH Training GmbH welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and is committed to fair, respectful, and inclusive recruitment. Selection is based on relevant skills, experience, and potential. We encourage you to apply with a portfolio, GitHub link, or brief introduction through the online application form. For questions about the position, please contact Nick Weißgerber.
