Role Description This is a part-time, remote Game Development role designed for undergraduate and graduate students seeking hands-on experience in game creation. The role involves collaborating with a distributed team to design gameplay concepts, implement features, and iterate on mechanics for games built at SJA Pathway and related initiatives. Day-to-day tasks include programming game systems, debugging and optimizing code, integrating assets, and refining user experiences based on feedback. Team members may also contribute to documentation, participate in code reviews, and share ideas that enhance game design and playability. This position is unpaid and intended to help students build a portfolio, develop practical skills, and gain exposure to real-world game development workflows.
Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong foundational skills in Programming and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP).
  • Candidates should possess applied skills in Game Programming and Gameplay Programming for interactive experiences.
  • Candidates should possess capabilities in Game Design, including systems thinking and player-focused design.
  • Familiarity with at least one game engine (e.g., Unity, Unreal, Godot) and basic version control (e.g., Git) is beneficial.
  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in Computer Science, Game Development, Interactive Media, or a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting, communicate clearly with team members, and manage part-time responsibilities alongside academic commitments.
  • A portfolio or samples of game-related projects, prototypes, or coursework are advantageous.
