GCS Software Engineer

Role Description This is a full-time remote role for a GCS (Ground Control Station) Software Engineer. The role involves designing, developing, and maintaining GCS software and related back-end services that operate IZI’s aerial platforms and consumer imaging devices. The engineer will implement robust, scalable features, integrate telemetry and mission-planning capabilities, and collaborate with hardware, firmware, and product teams to ensure seamless end-to-end system performance. Day-to-day tasks include writing clean, efficient code, reviewing peer implementations, optimizing system reliability and security, and contributing to architectural decisions and technical documentation. The role also requires troubleshooting production issues, improving development workflows, and participating in continuous improvement of software quality and user experience.
Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Computer Science, including data structures, algorithms, and systems concepts.
• Proficiency in Software Development and Programming, with experience in modern languages commonly used for GCS and backend systems.
• Hands-on experience with Back-End Web Development, including APIs, microservices, and integration with cloud or on-prem systems.
• Applied knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and software design principles for maintainable, scalable code.
• Experience working on real-time or mission-critical applications, preferably in robotics, drones, avionics, or embedded ecosystems.
• Familiarity with networking, messaging protocols, and telemetry handling in distributed systems.
• Comfort with version control, CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and collaborative development practices.
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment, communicate clearly across cross-functional teams, and document technical decisions.
• Interest in imaging, aerial platforms, and emerging technologies; prior experience in UAV or drone ecosystems is a plus.
