We are hiring on behalf of our client, an international technology company developing software solutions for the aviation industry. Its finance team supports a global business and works closely with local accounting partners and tax advisors to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance across multiple markets.
We are looking for a General Ledger Accountant to support accounting and statutory reporting for the company’s German entity. You will support the month-end close, prepare journal entries and accruals, perform balance sheet reconciliations, and help maintain accurate books under both German GAAP (HGB) and US GAAP. You will also work with external accounting partners, auditors, and tax advisors to support statutory reporting and keep the German entity audit-ready.

Responsibilities:
- Prepare and post month-end journal entries for the German entity, including accruals, revenue entries, and expense adjustments.
- Calculate accruals based on historical activity, contracts, and supporting documentation, and support variance analysis during the close process.
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies across general ledger, intercompany, and vendor accounts.
- Support accounting and close activities under both German GAAP (HGB) and US GAAP requirements.
- Assist with the preparation of annual statutory financial statements (Jahresabschluss) in accordance with HGB.
- Support the German statutory audit and coordinate requested documentation with external auditors (Wirtschaftsprüfer).
- Work with external tax advisors (Steuerberater) on VAT (Umsatzsteuer), trade tax (Gewerbesteuer), and corporate income tax matters.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation in line with German statutory requirements and ensure accounts remain audit-ready.
- Collaborate with Finance, Revenue Operations, and outsourced accounting partners to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Support financial analysis, reporting, and ad hoc projects, and contribute to improvements in accounting processes and internal controls.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, and 2–4 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Experience in general ledger accounting, month-end close, accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, or similar accounting activities.
- Working knowledge of German GAAP (HGB) and an understanding of its key differences from US GAAP.
- Familiarity with German statutory reporting and the annual Jahresabschluss process.
- Understanding of German corporate tax matters relevant to accounting, including VAT, trade tax, and corporate income tax.
- Strong understanding of accrual accounting, reconciliations, and financial close processes.
- Fluent German and English, written and spoken, with the ability to work with German-language financial documentation and communicate with external partners.
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial data and large data sets.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Experience working with a German Wirtschaftsprüfer or Steuerberater, ERP systems such as Oracle, NetSuite, or SAP, or an international finance team would be an advantage.
- Experience in a SaaS, technology, or subscription-based business would be an advantage.
