The Opportunity
The General Manager (GM) and VP, Power has leadership responsibility over the Ulteig Power business unit (BU) and its associated P&L. This includes business unit strategic direction, sales/growth, delivery, profitability, and overall business performance of the Power BU. Reporting to this position are the technical departments that primarily serve the Power BU (Substation and Transmission & Distribution [T&D] engineering departments and Project Management) as well as the Power Market department. The position is a member of the Ulteig Leadership Team (ULT) and reports to the Chief Operating Officer.
The GM and VP, Power will ensure organizational alignment and clarity, and successful execution of the company’s short and long-term strategies, business plans, and strategic objectives. This role will lead strategic capability and capacity development, in addition to guiding and positively influencing broader business, client, and partner development initiatives as needed.
What You’ll Do
Business & Organizational Performance and Strategic Leadership
- Provides strategic direction to the Power BU in alignment with the Ulteig’s Strategic Plan.
- Leads the Power leadership team to set annual budgets and business targets based on Ulteig’s Strategic Plan, Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and Power Territory Sales Plan (TSP). This includes responsibility for the overall profitability of the business.
- Work in concert with Power market leaders to develop the 3-5 year Power Market Strategy to expand and diversify our client base.
- Provides leadership oversight to operating departments and market teams, holding them accountable to expectations for results, quality and delivery.
- Ensures that technical services/delivery teams are appropriately resourced and committed to service quality and operational excellence.
- Actively engages with and provides thought leadership to our clients, the external market (Power Lifeline Sector), and communities we serve.
- Supports Power market teams and Client Team Leads (CTL) by developing and maintaining executive-level relationships with key clients.
- Works collaboratively with CXO and other ULT members.
- Utilizes market and industry data to drive business evolution, innovation, and improvement to ensure the long-term success of the Power BU and Ulteig.
- Partners closely with shared services leaders to ensure strategies and actions are in alignment with the Power BU.
- Provides sponsorship and leadership as necessary for Strategic Plan Bold Steps and other priorities and initiatives.
- Provides support to Chief Operating Officer, Director of Corporate Development and other Ulteig leaders regarding Ulteig merger & acquisition (M&A) and strategic partnership activities as needed.
People Leadership
- Ensure the appropriate organizational structure and leaders are in place to deliver commercial and delivery excellence.
- Collaborates across ‘first team’ of Business Unit leader peers across the Operating Business.
- Provides leadership support, development investments and coaching to direct reports, and ensures that Power BU leadership team members appropriately optimize performance and leadership development that supports succession of key positions.
- Creates and distributes key messages with Power BU leaders and staff.
- Ensures that key Ulteig and leadership communications are appropriately shared with Power BU leadership and others as appropriate.
- Commits to a safe work environment for employees and stakeholders.
- Acts as a role model to uphold Ulteig’s core Values and Ulteig leadership brand.
- Builds an ownership culture that promotes inclusion, growth, and engagement.

Scope
- Leads the Power BU staff consisting of the Directors of the Power operating and market departments.
- Provides direct management responsibility, strategic leadership, coordination of activities and administrative oversight with operating budget responsibility.
- Reports to the Chief Operating Officer.
- Work collaboratively with CXO and broader ULT members on the overall execution of the company’s short- and long-term strategies, business plans, and strategic initiatives.
- Additional duties may include tasks beyond what is listed, such as special projects, assisting colleagues, or new initiatives. A willingness to adapt to changing priorities and support team efforts enhances collaboration and growth opportunities.
What We Expect from You
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or related field.
- Master’s degree in Engineering or Business Administration preferred.
- 12 years of experience required / 15+ years of experience preferred working in engineering consulting, critical infrastructure, technical services or performing work similar in scope at other types of organizations.
- At least five years leading a functional group, market or multiple teams with demonstrated success in employee development, succession management, coaching, hiring and performance management.
- Strong business planning, management, and organizational experience.
- Demonstrated record of setting challenging goals and maintaining organizational accountability to achieve results.
- Significant experience and knowledge in the Power Lifeline Sector preferred.
- Ability to travel up to 40% of time to meet with clients, partners and employees.
- Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S.

Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $250,000 - $325,000
