Veeva is building the industry cloud for Life Sciences through software, data, AI, and business consulting working together. Learn more about our products, vision, values, and status as a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) on our website.
Consulting is changing, and we’re not like other firms. Launched in 2019, Veeva Business Consulting has grown quickly and organically to over 500 global experts who combine deep domain knowledge with innovative technology to help Life Sciences companies work in a more efficient and connected way.
We are growing aggressively as we look towards 2030. We are seeking great people to help shape the future of the industry with the world’s leading software, data, AI, and expertise at their back.
The Role
The Global Analytics Business Consulting Team applies data science and AI to help customers turn commercial, medical, and regulatory data into action. We are seeking a Global Data Science Lead that will support execution of the Data Science AI strategy within this team. This role will lead a group of data scientists, AI/ML engineers, and analysts, and partners with Global Analytics leadership to turn strategy into delivery — applying advanced analytics, machine learning, and generative AI/LLM techniques to life sciences data.
What You'll Do
- Lead the Data Science function within the Global Analytics Team, in line with Veeva's Analytics Business Consulting goals
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of data scientists, AI/ML engineers, and analysts within the Global Analytics Team
- Partner with Global Analytics leadership to translate the broader Data Science AI strategy into team priorities and delivery plans
- Own global methodology – model management, observability, testing, and deployment
- Foster collaboration between consulting, data science, and engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of AI-driven data solutions
- Oversee the design and implementation of advanced analytics, machine learning, and generative AI/LLM models within the Global Analytics Team's scope of work
- Ensure the development and maintenance of robust, scalable, and efficient data and AI infrastructure supporting Global Analytics Team deliverables
- Collaborate with cross-functional consulting teams to understand customer business requirements and translate them into AI-native, data-driven solutions
- Work with product and business stakeholders to surface opportunities for applying AI within Global Analytics Team engagements
- Enforce best practices for data quality, security, governance, and responsible AI use within the team
- Implement and maintain rigorous testing procedures to validate the accuracy and reliability of data, ML, and AI models
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Economics, Machine Learning, Applied Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or other quantitative discipline with 5+ years of relevant industry experience, or equivalent M.S. with 8+ years of relevant demonstrable research experience
- Experience with the Life Sciences industry and applying analytics and AI/ML to related data sets
- Hands-on experience building or deploying LLM-based systems (prompt engineering, RAG, agentic workflows, or fine-tuning). Advanced, in-depth specialization in data science and AI techniques including classification, pattern recognition, clustering, feature analysis, NLP, fuzzy matching, sentiment analysis, A/B testing, active/adaptive learning
- Proven leadership of teams of 10+ people
- Intellectual curiosity, along with excellent problem-solving and quantitative skills, including the ability to disaggregate issues, identify root causes, and recommend solutions, even in situations with non-standard problems
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively explain complex technical and AI-driven solutions to other team members and clients
- Must be comfortable with changing requirements and priorities
- Must be results-oriented and able to move forward without complete information and with minimal supervision
Nice to Have
- Advanced experience with AWS, Snowflake, or Databricks
- Data pipeline building skills
- Product development experience
- Experience with LLM orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex) or vector databases
- Experience designing AI-native products or workflows, not just adding AI to existing systems
