About the role and key responsabilities

The Global Mobility Tax Manager (GMTM), based in our office in Porto, is responsible for all payroll-tax, social security and related compliance matters arising from the international deployment of employees within the Muehlhan Group. The role is part of Group Global Tax Department and reports to the Global Head of Tax.

The GMTM owns processes, systems, implementation and results. External local advisors provide country-specific technical expertise.

The chosen candidate must have the availability to travel 50-60 days per year, mainly in Europe and Americans (this is a mandatory requirement).

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Organization & Processes

• From day one: oversight of the two existing Mobility Tax functions and involvement of the relevant colleagues.

• Proposals, implementation and roll out system landscape and process automation within the Mobility Tax area.

• Implement Group-wide “Tax-as-a-Service” in Mobility Tax area.

Technical Scope

• Individual employee income tax, tax residency and Double Tax Treaty matters;

• 183-day rules and economic employer considerations;

• Cross-border payroll, wage tax, social insurance and shadow payroll;

• A1 certificates, social security and Certificates of Coverage;

• Posted Worker and related mobility compliance;

• Business traveler’s and international project deployments;

• Identification and escalation of permanent establishment risks;

• Management of external tax and mobility advisors.

Profile:

• >10 years of strong experience in Global Mobility Tax, expatriate taxation, international wage/payroll tax or social security;

• Strong knowledge of international individual taxation and Double Tax Treaties;

• Strong practical experience with cross-border payroll and social security;

• Track record in process standardization, tax technology and automation (ideally using AI);

• Hands-on mentality: Takes ownership, acts quickly, follows up until completion;

• Experience managing and challenging external advisors and service providers;

• Business-fluent English (C1, proven) is a must; third language is an advantage;
