About the role:
Reporting to the VP of Procurement, Global Paper, the Global Category Manager will direct strategic sourcing and supplier management for critical paper sub-segments (such as Glassine, SCK, C1S, DT, etc.) This senior-level role champions our "One Global Materials Group" vision by balancing daily operational execution with long-range strategic planning. The successful candidate will optimize material costs, formulate high-impact global strategies, and lead a cross-regional Global Paper Community.
Key Responsibilities:
Work Location & Setup: Hybrid setup based at our European Headquarters in Oegstgeest, Netherlands.
Global Strategy & Execution: Formulate, document, and execute multi-year global sourcing strategies aligned with broader business objectives to drive sustained delivery of business results such as supply assurance, cost reduction, quality, service, and innovation.
Tendering & Negotiation: Take a hands-on approach to the end-to-end tendering process (RFx) and lead direct negotiations for complex commercial agreements.
Supplier Management: Cultivate strategic supplier partnerships, resolve complex supply chain challenges, mitigate geopolitical risks, and optimize Best Cost Country (BCC) sourcing.
Community Leadership: Foster a unified "One Global Materials Group" mindset across a global matrix organization, partnering with and empowering regional Procurement teams to align with global objectives and elevate team performance.
Financial & Operational Excellence: Manage AOP forecasting, cost modeling, and index management, championing functional transformation and ensuring rigorous compliance with evolving sustainability mandates like EUDR and PPWR.
Required:
Education: Bachelor’s degree required (Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field); MBA or advanced degree is preferred.
Experience: 10+ years in strategic sourcing, purchasing, or category management with direct accountability for material cost results, and 5+ years of managerial/leadership experience within a complex global matrix organization.
Language: Excellent command of English and Mandarin proficiency would be an advantage.
Skills you need to succeed:
Technical Skills: Deep expertise in developing and executing global category strategies, running competitive tenders, vendor selection, and utilizing should-cost models. Paper category expertise would be an advantage.
Communication & Leadership: Excellent presentation, written, and oral communication skills, with an exceptional ability to influence cross-functionally without direct authority.
