Global Product Owner, SAP Payroll

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Global Product Owner, SAP Payroll to take business ownership of our global SAP S/4HANA Payroll template.

This is a senior, business-facing product ownership role, not a payroll-processing or general HR administration position. You will define the strategic direction of the global payroll solution and ensure it remains standardized, scalable, compliant, and sustainable.

Working closely with global and country payroll teams, local template owners, IT, and senior stakeholders, you will translate complex payroll and regulatory requirements into clear business processes and functional specifications. A key part of the role will be balancing local requirements with the need to protect a consistent global template.

Your key responsibilities

• Own the strategic direction, roadmap, and continuous development of the global SAP S/4HANA Payroll template.

• Act as the primary business authority for decisions affecting the global payroll solution.

• Translate payroll, HR, legal, regulatory, and business requirements into clear process descriptions and functional specifications for IT.

• Review proposed solution designs and ensure they meet business needs and global template principles.

• Balance local payroll requirements with global standardization, challenging unnecessary customization.

• Prioritize requirements across countries and advise stakeholders on risks, dependencies, and investment priorities.

• Coordinate decisions across payroll, HR, IT, management, and local template owners.

• Support organizational readiness and change activities connected to the global payroll solution.

• Lead through influence in an international matrix organization.

What we are looking for

• At least five years of relevant experience in payroll systems, payroll process ownership, HR technology, SAP Payroll consulting, or global product/template ownership.

• Strong end-to-end understanding of payroll processes.

• Experience translating payroll or HR requirements into functional requirements, process descriptions, or system specifications.

• Experience working with IT teams on system design, implementation, enhancement, configuration, or integration.

• Experience with global or multi-country systems, templates, or transformation programs.

• Strong stakeholder-management, facilitation, prioritization, and decision-making skills.

• Ability to challenge requirements constructively and influence stakeholders without formal authority.

• Experience working in an international matrix organization.

• Fluent English.

Preferred experience

• Functional knowledge of SAP Payroll and its data model.

• Experience with SAP S/4HANA Payroll, a global payroll template, or an SAP payroll transformation.

• Experience with country localization, payroll integrations, or system implementation and go-live activities.

• Knowledge of payroll interfaces and upstream or downstream system dependencies.

• Experience supporting change management within a global HR or payroll transformation.
