Job Purpose: To deliver Qualified Driver Trainer and Advanced Safe Driver Training programmes across HALO's country programmes, building sustainable in-country training capacity and driving consistent application of HALO's road safety standards worldwide.

About HALO:

HALO is the leading global NGO addressing the impact and drivers of conflict in 30 countries and territories, with over 8,000 staff. Most of our staff are local employees and include a growing number of women.

Our primary duty is to serve people affected by conflict, clearing landmines and the explosive remnants of war that threaten lives and livelihoods long after fighting has finished. We make land safe where war has ended, while also assisting those affected by active conflict and endemic violence.

HALO addresses human suffering caused by armed violence in some of the world’s most fragile places, securing weapons and ammunition and working with both state and community actors to reduce the prevalence of armed violence.

The Global Fleet and Road Safety function supports HALO's programmes worldwide to manage vehicle fleets safely and efficiently, reducing road traffic risk to staff and communities.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ROLE REQUIRES THE POST HOLDER TO WORK EXCLUSIVELY FROM HALO'S INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMMES, AND CANNOT BE CONDUCTED REMOTELY*

About the role:

This is a new, full-time, global roaming post within the Global Fleet and Road Safety function, created to move safe driving training from an occasional HQ visit onto a planned, recurring international schedule. Working across HALO's programmes, the postholder will deliver programme capability through Qualified Driver Trainer courses to certify in-country trainers and Advanced Safe Driver Training directly to drivers, embedding a before-use check and fault-identification standard that keeps unsafe vehicles off the road.

The role standardises training content and competency standards globally, supports programmes in embedding Driver and Driving Management SOPs, and gives the Global Head of Fleet and Road Safety a direct, specialist line of sight into training outcomes and RTC risk trends across the organisation.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver Qualified Driver Trainer (Train the Trainer) courses that build and certify driver trainers within each programme.
  • Run a rolling international schedule of Advanced Safe Driver Training courses, prioritising programmes using RTC data and risk assessments.
  • Train drivers in before-use vehicle checks and a standardised fault-identification approach, so unsafe vehicles stay off the road and developing faults are caught and repaired before they cause a breakdown.
  • Set and maintain consistent training content, assessment criteria and competency standards across every programme.
  • Assess driver competency and report on it, flagging training needs at both individual and programme level.
  • Help programmes develop, review and embed Driver and Driving Management SOPs.
  • Provide technical training input to RTC investigations where driver competency or a training gap is a contributing factor.
  • Report regularly to the Global Head of Fleet and Road Safety on training delivered, trainers certified and competency trends.
  • Coordinate with the Global Fleet Technical Manager where visit schedules overlap, so programmes receive one joined-up assurance visit.

General:

  • Uphold HALO’s core values and standards, promoting its ethos and mission statement.
  • Ensure familiarity with and adherence to all HALO policies and procedures, especially the code of conduct and safeguarding

Travel Requirements:

  • Extensive. This is a globally roaming role built around a rolling international schedule of training visits. The successful applicant will spend all their time in HALO’s country programmes except when they are on leave, or occasionally required to be elsewhere for meetings.
  • Recognised driver trainer/instructor qualification (e.g. ADI, QDT accreditation, or equivalent), or substantial equivalent experience delivering advanced driver training.
  • Proven experience delivering Train the Trainer programmes and certifying other trainers.
  • Experience training drivers in vehicle before-use checks and fault identification.
  • Strong assessment and reporting skills, with the ability to identify and communicate training needs clearly.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally on a rolling schedule, including to remote or austere locations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience training defensive driving techniques.
  • Experience training drivers in 4x4 or off-road driving in high-risk environments.
  • Experience training light vehicle self-recovery techniques.
  • Experience in the humanitarian, development or NGO sector.
  • Knowledge of RTC investigation processes.
  • Additional language skills relevant to HALO's programme countries.

Physical Requirements for the role:

  • Able to demonstrate and deliver practical driver training, including driving a range of vehicle types.
  • Fit to travel frequently to remote or insecure programme locations.

HALO's benefit package depends on the type of contract issued (UK or International), but could include the following:

  • Non-contributory life assurance
  • Private medical insurance
  • Pension contributions matched by HALO up to 5% (UK) / Retirement Plan (International)
  • Emergency medical insurance while travelling overseas
  • Flexible working policy
  • Local Overseas Allowance (International only)

Please submit a CV (no more than 2 pages) and a cover letter (no more than 1 page) outlining how your experience matches the key skills and competencies required by 11th November 2026. Applications without a cover letter tailored to this position will not be considered.

We reserve the right to amend the closing date depending on the number of applications received.
