Make a Difference at the Heart of Policing Governance

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced governance professional and people manager to play a key role in supporting democratic accountability, transparency and effective decision-making across policing and crime in South Yorkshire.

As Governance and Compliance Manager, you will lead the delivery of governance, assurance and compliance arrangements that enable the Mayor and Deputy Mayor to fulfil the statutory responsibilities of the Police and Crime Commissioner. You will work at the centre of high-profile decision-making, providing expert governance support and ensuring robust processes are in place to uphold public confidence and accountability.

A significant part of the role involves leading and developing a small team, managing workloads and priorities, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring the Directorate's governance and compliance activities are delivered effectively and efficiently. We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate practical staff management experience and a proven ability to lead, motivate and develop others.

Working closely with South Yorkshire Police's Senior Command Team, members of the public, legal professionals, independent panel members and volunteers, you will build strong relationships whilst managing a diverse portfolio of statutory and governance responsibilities.

Please note: This role is politically restricted under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989. Postholders are prohibited from standing for elected office (except Town or Parish Councils) and from engaging in certain political activities, including canvassing or acting as an officer of a political party. Roles listed as "specified" in Section 2.1 of the Act have no right of appeal. Further details are available on request and are available in the SYMCA - Politically Restricted Post List Police Vetting: Appointment will be subject to successful completion of NPPV3 Police Vetting. Please note that this process can take up to 12 weeks and must be completed before employment can commence.

Applications must be submitted via our careers portal and be accompanied by a supporting statement. A supporting statement template is provided as part of the application pack and should be completed and uploaded in place of a cover letter. The supporting statement should clearly demonstrate how your skills, knowledge and experience meet the criteria outlined within the role profile. Applications submitted without a completed supporting statement may not be considered.

Interviews will in person and will take place Tuesday 20th October or Thursday 22nd October.
