Show job description

Young Concert Artists (YCA) seeks a Graphic Design & Media Associate to build and maintain the visual assets that support our work across the organization. This is primarily a graphic design role requiring strong print production skills, with some video editing, and a meaningful share of administrative work: organizing the asset library, fielding requests from colleagues, and distributing materials to internal and external partners.

The associate serves as the organization's central point of contact for visual assets, supporting the marketing, development, artist management, and programs & auditions departments. The ideal candidate can produce a full suite of designed assets for a campaign and also edit performance footage into digestible clips for a presenter or advertiser when needed.

This role focuses on visual design production. It does not manage social media accounts or the website.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, the associate is part of a collaborative office of about 18 staff members, and an external PR firm. YCA's work includes publicly presented concerts, annual international auditions, two annual galas, robust fundraising activities, ongoing marketing, and a thriving Artist Management Department. Each year, YCA facilitates more than 900 external performance engagements for its rostered artists, including 300 education and community engagement activities.

About YCA

Young Concert Artists is one of the world's preeminent career-launching organizations for exceptional emerging musicians. Since 1961 YCA has been at the forefront of discovering and launching the careers of the future leading figures of classical music worldwide — among them Emanuel Ax, Julia Bullock, Anne Akiko Meyers, Jeremy Denk, Ray Chen, Anne-Marie McDermott, Richard Goode, Jennifer Johnson Cano, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Kevin Puts, Pinchas Zukerman, Tokyo String Quartet, Randall Goosby, 2025 Van Cliburn Winner Aristo Sham, and many more.

Named for YCA’s founder, the annual Susan Wadsworth International Auditions draw hundreds of the most exceptional young musicians from around the world to compete for the life-changing opportunity to join the YCA roster. Each year, through three rounds of rigorous auditions, three to four winners are chosen by a jury of distinguished musicians and industry leaders based on YCA’s standard of excellence.

YCA invests in its artists by providing them with the performance opportunities, tools and infrastructure to take their careers to the highest level. Through a transformative and holistic three-year program, YCA propels musicians to new levels of artistic growth, offering a wealth of resources including comprehensive artist management, concert engagements at top venues around the globe, and YCA-presented debut recitals in New York City and Washington, DC. YCA connects its artists to a far-reaching network, opening doors and fostering key relationships that fundamentally change the trajectory of their careers.

Responsibilities

Design and Creative Production

  • Design campaigns and collateral for YCA's annual auditions, presented concert series, and galas, including digital graphics and print materials
  • Prepare press-ready files (bleeds, color profiles, imposition, specs) for print materials including the annual season brochure, gala materials (invitation, menus, etc), concert program books, annual impact report.
  • Create and maintain templates (social, email, presentations, print) so colleagues can produce on-brand materials independently
  • Retouch and edit photography; coordinate with photographers and artists on image needs
  • Produce visual assets for web use, delivered to the colleagues who manage the website

Video Editing

  • Edit video content that supports Development, Artist Management, Programs & Auditions, and Marketing & Communications, such as performance clips for presenters and advertisers, promotional videos, event recaps, and social cuts
  • Add captions and format video for accessibility and for each platform's specifications

Brand Stewardship

  • Maintain and evolve the YCA Brand Guide
  • Review external materials across departments to ensure alignment with the Brand Guide, and give clear, constructive feedback
  • Train and support staff on brand usage and available templates

Asset Management and Operations

  • Serve as the point of contact for requests for visual assets, and distribute assets to internal teams and external partners, including presenters, venues, press, and artists
  • Manage design and video requests from multiple departments: intake, prioritization against deadlines, and clear communication on timelines
  • Maintain an organized archive of design and video assets, and catalogue YCA's photos, videos, and related media
  • Track photo credits, usage rights, and artist approvals for media in the archive
  • Support events such as galas, concerts, and auditions as needed, which may include some evenings and weekends

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in graphic design or a related field
  • Portfolio demonstrating strong design work and video editing skills
  • Demonstrated experience preparing files for commercial print production
  • Expert in Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Photoshop (After Effects and Lightroom a plus)
  • Experience editing performance or event video, with the ability to turn around short clips independently
  • Excellent eye for design, branding, and detail
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple requests and deadlines across departments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to give diplomatic feedback and hold the line on brand standards
  • Experience with collaborative tools, including Google Workspace, Slack, and project management software (we currently use Asana)
  • Interest in and knowledge of classical music is strongly encouraged
  • Photography skills a plus
