ROLE SNAPSHOT

Job title: Greece Regulatory Compliance Manager

Sector: Regulated iGaming (online casino and/or sports betting)

Market: Greece, licensed by the Hellenic Gaming Commission (HGC / EEEP)

Function: Compliance and Regulatory Affairs

Location: Fully remote, based in Greece or Cyprus

Contract: Full-time, permanent

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Greece Regulatory Compliance Manager to own our compliance with Greek gambling law and the requirements of the Hellenic Gaming Commission (HGC). You will be the main point of contact for the regulator and the person who keeps our Greek licence, products and marketing within the rules.

The Greek market is one of Europe’s more demanding regulated online markets, with a national self-exclusion framework, certified games and systems, tight advertising controls and active enforcement against unlicensed operators. You will work with product, technology, payments, marketing and customer support to make sure compliance is built into how we operate in Greece, not added afterwards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Regulatory ownership and licence management

  • Act as the day-to-day contact for the HGC, handling correspondence, information requests, audits and inspections.
  • Maintain our Type 1 (online betting) and/or Type 2 (other online games) licence conditions, renewals and notifications.
  • Manage HGC registrations and approvals, including key personnel, suppliers and services, and changes to the business.
  • Prepare and submit periodic regulatory reports and returns accurately and on time.

Monitoring Greek law and regulation

  • Track changes to Law 4002/2011 (as amended by Law 4635/2019), the online gaming regulation and HGC directives, circulars and consultations.
  • Assess the impact of each change, brief senior management and lead implementation across teams.
  • Contribute to industry consultations and relationships with Greek trade bodies where appropriate.

Product, game and technical compliance

  • Ensure games, platforms and systems are certified or approved by the HGC before launch, and that certification stays valid after updates.
  • Review new features, bonuses, promotions and terms and conditions against Greek requirements before release.
  • Work with technology on Greek-specific controls such as player location checks, the Greek-based server requirement and HGC data access.

Player protection and responsible gaming

  • Ensure the player card, deposit and loss limits, session controls, reality checks and self-exclusion tools meet Greek rules, including checks against the national self-exclusion register.
  • Oversee responsible gaming policies, staff training, monitoring of at-risk behaviour and reporting.
  • Support customer support and VIP teams on Greek-specific player protection decisions.

AML, KYC and financial crime

  • Support the MLRO and AML function in applying a risk-based approach under Greek AML legislation (Law 4557/2018, as amended), including customer due diligence, transaction monitoring and suspicious activity reporting.
  • Make sure Greek player onboarding, source-of-funds and payment controls meet both HGC and AML expectations.

Advertising and affiliate compliance

  • Approve Greek marketing, sponsorship and bonus communications against HGC advertising and responsible gambling messaging rules.
  • Make sure affiliates and other marketing partners are properly licensed and compliant, and act on breaches.

Governance, data and assurance

  • Maintain the Greek compliance framework: policies, risk assessments, a compliance monitoring plan and a breach and incident log.
  • Ensure Greek player data is handled in line with GDPR and the Greek data protection authority’s expectations.
  • Deliver compliance training to staff and report to senior management and the board on key risks and regulatory developments.
  • Coordinate with external Greek legal counsel and with the wider group compliance team on other markets.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Around 5 years’ compliance or regulatory experience in online gambling, with direct, hands-on experience of the Greek market and the HGC.
  • Strong working knowledge of Greek gambling legislation, HGC licensing, certification and reporting requirements.
  • Experience handling regulator relationships, including audits, inspections or enforcement queries.
  • Practical understanding of responsible gambling, AML/KYC and player protection controls in a licensed operator.
  • Fluent Greek and professional-level English, written and spoken. You will read Greek regulation and correspond with the HGC in Greek.
  • Degree in law, compliance, business or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Sound judgement, with the ability to give clear commercial advice to non-specialists and say no when needed.
  • Right to work in Greece or Cyprus, and a home-office set-up suitable for fully remote work.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in an HGC-licensed operator or supplier, or at a law firm or consultancy advising on Greek gambling regulation.
  • A recognised compliance or AML qualification, such as ICA, ACAMS or a Greek bar or legal qualification.
  • Experience of other regulated European markets (for example Malta, Cyprus, Italy or Spain) and of working with a group compliance team.
  • Familiarity with national self-exclusion registers, player location checks and regulated-market reporting tools.
  • Experience of licence applications, regulatory change projects or licence renewals.
  • Exposure to affiliate licensing and enforcement against unlicensed operators.
