Bonava has science-based climate targets for 2030, life cycle assessments in all projects and business units that drive their own emission reductions. As Group Environmental and Climate Action Manager, you will lead the expert group where sustainability managers from the business units coordinate their work, and you will follow up on how the business units are progressing towards their own targets. You will have a central position in the Group function with colleagues in Sweden, Germany, Finland and the Baltics. Your contribution is to create the conditions for climate actions to be carried out in the projects, with methodology, data and follow-up as your tools.
About Bonava
Bonava is a leading residential developer in Europe with the purpose to create happy neighbourhoods for the many. With its 900 employees, Bonava develops residential housing in Germany, Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania. To date, the company has built about 50,000 homes and reported net sales of approximately SEK 8 billion in 2025. Bonava’s shares and green bond are listed on Nasdaq Stockholm.
In 2020, Bonava became the first residential developer in Europe to have its climate targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative. Today, Bonava’s climate journey continues with tightened targets, concrete transition plans, the use of life cycle assessments and smart solutions at project level. As Group Environmental and Climate Action Manager, you will lead the Group’s expert group and help the business units succeed in practice.
Role and responsibilities
Environmental and climate work at Bonava is governed at three levels. The Group’s ESG Council decides on the direction and ambition, and the business units own the implementation. Your role is to link the two by coordinating the business units’ work and running an expert group where the business units’ sustainability managers collaborate on action plans, follow up on progress and produce the input needed to move the work forward. You will work closely with your manager, who leads the Group function’s ESG team and the ESG Council and is responsible for strategic alignment with executive management. Your main tasks and responsibilities include:
Leadership and governance
Lead the expert group’s meetings and develop its ways of working so that the business units share knowledge, learn from each other and identify improvement proposals
Translate the direction set by the ESG Council into action plans, Group-wide methodology and guidelines for the business units
Follow-up and development
Follow up quarterly on the commitments in the respective emission reduction plans to 2030, in dialogue with each business unit
Coordinate follow-up of the broader environmental agenda, including climate adaptation, energy, biodiversity and resource use
Coordination and support
Take responsibility for the Group’s environmental data for the sustainability report, including quality assurance and the environmental parts of the double materiality assessment
Further develop the Group’s climate and environmental methodology (SBTi, GHG, LCA, etc.) in line with new frameworks and regulations
You will report to the Group Head of ESG Control and Reporting and be part of a small and highly skilled team. The role is based at Bonava’s head office in Stockholm, with travel to the business units in connection with the expert group’s in-person meetings.
What Bonava offers
The climate targets are already established in the business units, which drive their own plans. This allows you to focus your energy on supporting the business units in the implementation itself, in their collaboration and in their learning from one another. You will work in a small Group function with direct insight into how executive management steers on climate, and with colleagues in six countries with different markets and regulations. All in all, you get variety, stimulating challenges and a people-focused role where your contribution makes a real difference.
Qualifications and merits
This role requires several years of professional experience focused on environmental and climate work, but your attitude is just as important.
We welcome all applicants and are convinced that diversity and the strengths of every individual are needed to build a sustainable society. That is why we use a competency-based recruitment process, where matching is based on the following qualifications, merits and personal characteristics.
Required qualifications:
An academic degree in sustainability, environment, energy, engineering or another relevant field
Several years of professional experience where environmental and climate work in a Nordic context has been the main focus
Good technical understanding of greenhouse gas accounting according to the GHG Protocol and of life cycle assessments
Experience of driving emission reduction initiatives or implementation through cross-functional projects, from target setting to reporting
Professional-level English, spoken and written
Additional merits:
Experience as an employee in construction, real estate or residential development, with an understanding of the building process and its climate impact at each stage
Hands-on experience of LCA in new-build projects
Experience of managing environmental data and sustainability reporting, preferably including streamlining or automating data collection
Experience of coordinating environmental work in a decentralised or international setting
Swedish, German, Finnish, or one of the Baltic languages is considered a merit
Personal characteristics:
To succeed in the role, you need to be pragmatic and flexible, as the climate ambition only becomes reality when it works with the business logic and conditions in each market. You also need to be independent and take initiative, as you will be expected to get to grips with a problem, form your own view and come up with your own proposals for how to take the work forward. Finally, you need to be good at building relationships and explaining things clearly, since trust within the expert group and the business units is what turns follow-up into action.
Terms of employment
Location: Bonava’s head office on Lindhagensgatan in Stockholm. The role requires you to be based in Stockholm, but some hybrid working is possible depending on the needs of the business and the team.
Employment: Full-time, with a market-based salary reflecting the responsibilities of the role and your level of experience. Bonava has a collective agreement and offers benefits including 30 days of annual leave, reduced working hours, a wellness allowance, parental pay top-up, sick pay and a lunch benefit.
Start date: By agreement, before 31 March 2027, to allow for a handover.
