ABOUT ZENOBE

Our mission is to make clean power accessible, to accelerate the shift to zero-carbon power and transport around the world. We are passionate about making a positive impact on communities and the environment where we work.

We’re designing, financing, building and operating the world’s most sophisticated battery systems to enable the take up of more renewable power, electrifying fleets for cleaner air, and providing clean, portable power including repurposed electric vehicle batteries. Our proprietary software and data analysis optimises operational performance for our customers to reduce emissions and costs.

Since we began in 2017, we’ve raised over £2 billion in debt and equity funding and transformed it into >1GW of grid-connected batteries live or under contract and c.2,000 electric vehicles supported. We have operations in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Benelux, the USA and a global headquarters in London.

We’re the leading owner and operator of battery storage in the UK, supporting the National Grid with the uptake of renewable power. We also work with c.90% of the UK's major bus companies, powering 25% of the UK e-bus market. We’re also the number one owner and operator of e-buses in Australia and New Zealand, and are quickly expanding into light commercial vehicles and trucks. Our rapidly growing company is looking for highly talented and motivated people to join us.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Zenobē is growing quickly, and our funding needs are growing with us. We are looking for an experienced Group Treasurer to lead our treasury function through its next stage: establishing treasury as an independent, value-adding function that supports the business as we aim for 10x growth by 2030.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will lead a lean team of two and own treasury across the group. That covers a c£2bn portfolio of non-recourse project debt across c8 facilities and multiple jurisdictions, group liquidity, treasury policy and risk, and the finance risks and mitigations that sit across the wider finance team. You will work closely with the Head of Finance on the treasury roadmap, support reporting to the Audit & Risk Committee (ARC) and our shareholders, and partner with Legal and Corporate Finance on refinancings, new debt and equity raises, expansion into new jurisdictions and M&A.

This is a role for a builder. We are moving from manual processes to a treasury management system (TMS), and we are building treasury processes from the ground up rather than running an established playbook. You will need to roll your sleeves up and be comfortable getting hands-on when the team needs it.

A TASTE OF THE DAY TO DAY

• Lead and develop the treasury team. Lead a lean team of two, setting priorities, coaching and building capability as we introduce a TMS and drive efficiency.

• Treasury strategy. Work with the Head of Finance to shape the treasury roadmap and establish treasury as an independent, strategic function that adds measurable value to the business. Develop the strategies and routines that feed treasury insight (funding availability and cost, liquidity headroom, covenant capacity, market and counterparty risk) into decision-making at every level of the business, including project profiling and investment committee decisions, so that capital is allocated and funded with a clear view of the financing implications.

• Policy, risk and controls. Own treasury policies (including liquidity, FX, interest rate and counterparty risk), risk registers and processes, and drive best-in-class controls across the function. Act as the key owner of finance risks, mitigations and actions across the finance team.

• Debt portfolio management. Manage a c£2bn portfolio across c8 non-recourse project debt facilities in multiple jurisdictions, ensuring debt is drawn in a timely way to fund our growing capital requirements. Own debt reporting and covenant and compliance forecasting, proactively managing covenant compliance (both financial and non-financial) and running the compliance calendar.

• Hedging. Own the group hedging programme, including interest rate and FX hedging strategy, execution and monitoring against lender requirements, working with Financial Reporting on accounting treatment.

• Lender and bank relationships. Working jointly with Corporate Finance, act as a key relationship contact for lenders and banks, covering the day-to-day practicalities of facilities, including consents, conditions precedent, drawdowns and reserve accounts.

• Liquidity and cash management. Manage group liquidity, including medium-term cash forecasting, equity funding and oversight of cash movements, working with colleagues across the business.

• Other facilities and cash initiatives. Manage letters of credit, bonding facilities and working capital, and lead cash-releasing initiatives including intercompany loans, cash pooling and interest optimisation.

• Corporate transactions. Play a key role with Legal and Corporate Finance on refinancings, new debt and equity raises, establishing businesses in new jurisdictions and M&A support.

• Governance and reporting. Support the Head of Finance on key treasury matters reported to the ARC and produce a regular treasury report for shareholders covering matters, actions, priorities, risks and mitigations.

• Systems. Support the successful implementation of a TMS as we transition away from manual processes.

• Corporate Finance transition. Partner with Corporate Finance to transition day-to-day treasury and debt activity into the treasury team over time.

• Finance partnership. Work very closely with other functional heads to support the wider finance team and make sure we are set up for 10x growth by 2030.

Health and Safety

  • Actively contribute to Zenobe's commitment to health and safety, wellbeing and sustainability by; integrating these principles into daily responsibilities, ensuring a safe and supportive work environment, promoting both the physical and mental health of self and colleagues, and adopting sustainable and energy-efficient practices to minimize environmental impact. By doing so, each employee at Zenobe plays a vital role in fostering a culture that prioritises overall safety, holistic wellbeing, environmental sustainability in our business operations.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We realise that certain groups of people are less likely to apply for a role if they don’t meet 100% of the job requirements. To be absolutely clear: if you like the look of this job and think you could do it well, we encourage you to apply with a CV that highlights your transferable skills and experience. Above all, Zenobē is looking for collaborative, flexible, empathetic people who are interested in creating and promoting practical routes to a zero carbon world.

• 8+ years' treasury experience, ideally in infrastructure or asset-heavy businesses with a global footprint.

• Strong experience of non-recourse project debt structures, including covenant modelling and compliance forecasting, and negotiating with lenders and banks.

• A treasury qualification (ACT / MCT / AMCT) or an accountancy qualification (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) combined with treasury experience is preferred.

• Experience managing and developing a team is preferred.

• A hands-on, builder mindset: happy to work as an individual contributor when needed and to build processes from scratch rather than run an existing playbook.

• A collaborative, people-first approach, working effectively inside the finance team and across the wider business, including Legal, Corporate Finance and commercial colleagues.

• Strong command of Excel and financial modelling. Experience of TMS implementation, and proficiency in Power BI or automation tools, are advantageous.

• Comfortable working across time zones when required.

What Success Looks Like

In your first year we would expect to see:

• A TMS successfully implemented and embedded.

• A clear treasury roadmap and a refreshed policy suite and risk register.

• A completed handover of day-to-day treasury activity from Corporate Finance.

• Automated covenant forecasting and reliable, system-sourced debt reporting.
