The Company
Rescue is a full-service marketing agency with a mission to make healthy behaviors easier and more appealing. Since our founding in 2001, Rescue has been exclusively focused on researching, developing, and implementing positive social change campaigns in public health. We provide research, strategy, creative, production, web, traditional media, social media, policy change, youth engagement and experiential marketing services to government, non-profit, and healthcare clients in over 35 states and provinces, as well as to federal government agencies.
Rescue’s health behavior change marketing campaigns focus on topics such as tobacco, obesity, substance and alcohol prevention; the promotion of exercise, eating healthy foods, early childhood development, and after school programs; and other topics that promote healthy living. Rescue’s behavior change campaigns focus on diverse populations within teen (13 - 17), young adult (18 - 26), and adult (18+) populations in both rural and urban areas, resulting in a wide variety of campaign styles and strategies.
We believe that marketing can do more than sell goods, it can create good, and we are looking for team members that are ready to work hard to create a healthier world.
The Job
Rescue is hiring a Growth Lead to lead business development. This role owns a pipeline and an annual sales target, and is accountable for turning qualified opportunities into won revenue. This is an independent role for natural connectors who are deeply embedded in their market and excited by the opportunity to help grow the impact and reach of an established behavior change agency.

What you’ll own
- The pipeline. You'll own the pipeline and an annual sales target. You'll find, qualify, and develop opportunities that match what we do well, keep records current in our CRM, and report progress to leadership monthly.
- Opportunity strategy. For every priority opportunity, you'll understand the buyer, the need, the funding, the decision process, and our path to win. If we don't have a credible path, you'll tell us early.
- Relationships that turn into work. You'll build trusted relationships with senior leaders and program and communications leads in your market, and use them to understand needs and priorities. You'll also create chances for our leadership and subject matter experts to engage with them.
- Messaging and proposals. You'll shape how we talk about our work for your buyers, using the language they use. You'll work with leadership on scope, pricing, and deliverables, and be hands-on in writing and submitting proposals.
- Partnering to win. When an opportunity becomes an active pursuit, you'll work with colleagues across the company to win it, and you'll stay involved as the client relationship lead.
- Market awareness. You'll track budget, policy, leadership, and funding changes in your market, and turn them into opportunities we can act on.
Required Qualifications:
- 14 years relevant experience OR Bachelor's Degree +9 years relevant experience OR Master's Degree +7 years relevant experience
- Demonstrated experience selling to your market and converting relationships into new business.
- Experience owning a pipeline or revenue target and being held accountable for it.
- A track record of closing business on long sales cycles, including deals you sourced yourself.
- Established relationships with senior decision-makers in your market.
- Deep knowledge of how your buyers set priorities, fund initiatives, and procure outside partners.
- Strong strategic and commercial instincts and the ability to recognize where there is a meaningful opportunity and path to win.
- Comfort running your own pipeline, outreach, and reporting without day-to-day direction.
- Sound judgment and discretion with senior leaders, and persistence when progress is slow.
- Experience using a CRM (e.g. HubSpot) for pipeline tracking and contact management.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience selling professional services such as communications, marketing, research, or media to government or health plan clients.
- A history of originating new business opportunities and positioning an organization to win them.
- Experience supporting competitive proposals and presentations.
- Familiarity with state and federal budget, funding, and contracting processes.
- Background in public health, behavioral health, substance use, tobacco control, early childhood, nutrition access, chronic disease prevention, or behavior change.
