Hardware Development Engineer – Power Electronics
Location: Ticino, Switzerland
Languages: Fluent English and Italian, spoken and written
We are recruiting for a Hardware Development Engineer to support and improve electronic hardware used in demanding power applications.
This position combines circuit design, product lifecycle engineering, and hands-on laboratory work. You will contribute to the performance and reliability of existing products, investigate technical challenges, and work closely with engineering and manufacturing colleagues to implement practical solutions.
The role suits an engineer who enjoys understanding how hardware performs in practice, improving established designs, and taking technical changes through to validation and documentation.
Your responsibilities
- Design and refine analog and digital electronic circuits within complex power electronic systems.
- Improve existing hardware designs, addressing product performance, functionality, reliability, and component availability.
- Select and evaluate electronic components, qualify suitable alternatives, and proactively monitor component obsolescence and end-of-life risks.
- Verify design changes through engineering calculations, circuit simulations, and laboratory measurements.
- Plan and carry out bench-level validation, analyze results, and document technical conclusions.
- Investigate hardware failures, identify root causes, and develop and verify corrective actions.
- Prepare and maintain Engineering Change Notifications (ECNs), Bills of Materials (BOMs), schematics, technical drawings, test reports, and other engineering documentation.
- Support manufacturing teams with hardware-related issues affecting existing product lines.
- Follow relevant technology developments and contribute ideas that improve products and solve engineering problems.
Your background
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering.
- At least two years of relevant experience with electrical systems and complex power electronic systems.
- Sound knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, schematic development, and circuit simulation.
- Practical experience in PCB design and electronic component selection.
- Advanced proficiency with Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or a comparable PCB design tool.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, voltage and current sources, and power analyzers.
- A strong understanding of engineering change processes, BOM management, and technical documentation systems.
- Experience investigating failures and applying root cause and corrective action analysis.
- The ability to work independently on technical problems and collaborate effectively with engineering and manufacturing colleagues.
- Fluent spoken and written English and Italian, including the ability to discuss technical topics and prepare clear documentation.
Additional experience that would be valuable
- Knowledge of environmental, reliability, and safety requirements for industrial products.
- Experience working with Agile methods in an engineering environment.
What the role offers
- A combination of circuit development, laboratory validation, and practical product improvement.
- The opportunity to contribute throughout the lifecycle of established power electronics products.
- Close collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams.
- One remote working day per week, alongside regular on-site work in Ticino.
