Job Description:

Hardware Engineering Manager – Hands-On Technical Lead

We are seeking a hands-on Hardware Engineering Manager with at least 10 years of proven industry experience developing electronic hardware for equipment delivered to production and deployed in the field.

This role combines technical leadership, people management, and direct engineering execution. The successful candidate will support with supervision of a small hardware engineering team while remaining actively involved in the design, validation, troubleshooting, and improvement of electronic systems.

The position requires a strong technical background and the ability to balance team supervision, project coordination, and engineering deliverables. The manager is expected to, most of the time, contribute directly to hardware development rather than acting exclusively in a supervisory capacity.

The team develops mixed analog and digital hardware used in embedded controllers, wired and wireless communication devices, LV motor-drive interfaces, power conversion systems, sensors, and industrial equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and personally execute hardware design for embedded systems, including analog and digital circuits, schematics, PCB designs, and system-level designs involving interfaces, sensors, and power circuits.
  • Define and review hardware architectures, balancing requirements, cost, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and operation in demanding environments.
  • Lead hardware development from initial design through prototype bring-up, hands-on debugging, field testing, and production release.
  • Plan and conduct board-level and system-level validation, following the V-model and maintaining traceability between requirements, design, and testing.
  • Investigate and resolve EMI/EMC, signal and power integrity, grounding, thermal, and environmental robustness issues.
  • Collaborate with Firmware, Manufacturing, Quality, and other teams on product integration, manufacturing introduction, and production or field failure resolution.
  • Provide technical guidance to the team, allocate tasks, conduct design reviews, and support engineers’ development.
  • Coordinate priorities, timelines, and technical risks while maintaining sound practices for documentation, validation, and project release.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Control and Automation Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of industry experience developing electronic hardware for products deployed in the field, with a proven record of delivering production-ready designs.
  • Hands-on experience with schematic design, SPICE simulation, PCB development, prototype bring-up, debugging, and validation; proficiency with Altium Designer or a similar ECAD tool.
  • Experience with embedded controllers, analog and digital interfaces, communication buses, sensors, and power electronics, including hardware used in demanding environments and familiarity with EMI/EMC design and troubleshooting.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to coordinate technical work, mentor engineers, manage competing priorities, and remain directly involved in development.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience as a technical lead, engineering supervisor, or people manager, including mentoring engineers and supporting team development and continuous improvement.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering field, with experience in structured product development processes such as the V-model, design reviews, requirements traceability, and release gates.
  • Experience developing hardware for renewable energy, industrial automation, motor control, or power conversion applications; Python, C, or scripting experience for test automation and data analysis is a plus.
