Show job description

Do you believe digital solutions can solve the challenges the Finnish public sector is facing? Are you ready to lead that transformation by bringing together skilled teams, advanced technology, data and AI where they make the greatest impact?

If so, we are looking for you as our Head of Engagement Area in Helsinki, Turku or Oulu.

About Nortal

Nortal is a leading digital transformation company. We combine the experience of transforming Estonia into a digital leader with a strategic approach and data-driven technology. Our vision is to deliver the future. Seamlessly. Nortal operates from 36 offices and employs 3,000+ specialists who deliver high-impact projects across Europe, the Nordics, the Middle East and the U.S. In Finland, we are a team of nearly 200 professionals in five cities.

About the GovTech business area

Our GovTech business area serves customers across central and local government, public healthcare, joint municipal authorities and other publicly owned companies, each at a different stage of digital maturity. We provide a wide range of services that combine technical capabilities with deep domain expertise. We are growing both by expanding our work with existing customers and by winning new ones.

Your role

As Head of Engagement Area, you build, lead and develop a portfolio of customer engagements for our Public & Health sector customers, efficiently and profitably. You drive Nortal’s growth in both the short and the long term.

You know how to position Nortal with customers and build long-term partnerships by delivering concrete and continuous value. You bring together capabilities from across the organization into seamless cross-functional teams, set up governance and delivery, and make sure we keep our promises.

You lead and support your team so that everyone can reach their full potential, and you care about wellbeing and an energetic working environment. You lead a team of around 25 people, including Team Leads. The team includes developers, architects, Microsoft Dynamics and Power Platform consultants, and project managers. When a customer engagement needs more, you bring in experts from Nortal’s studios and other business units across organizational boundaries.

Your strategic responsibilities

  • Industry insight: Follow emerging themes in the public sector, understand customers’ short- and long-term priorities, and turn them into opportunities.

  • Data & AI: Identify where data and AI create real value for customers and help shape solutions around them.

  • People leadership: Build seamless cross-functional teams, and coach and inspire them to high performance.

  • Value proposition design: Work with local leadership, sales and capability teams to develop propositions that create value for customers and demand for Nortal’s services.

Your operational responsibilities

  • Delivery: Ensure customer value, P&L, risk, quality and timely delivery, and manage customer expectations in your area. Take part in customer steering groups and oversee delivery. Take a hands-on role in particularly strategic or complex engagements.

  • Sales: Proactively generate demand for Nortal’s services. Identify, shape and lead opportunities and bids with existing and new customers, and support other teams in strategic or complex deals. You will define content of services and deals, their delivery model, resourcing, capacity and the prerequisites for commercialisation. Build trust so that Nortal becomes the partner of choice for our customers’ objectives.

  • Team management: Ensure our capacity to deliver through resourcing, hiring, onboarding and performance management, and look after your team’s wellbeing.

  • Business management: Own monthly financial forecasting for your area and make the most of our partner network.

Our way of working is flexible, but this role thrives on presence: you’ll spend a good share of your time at our office and with customers. Travel is limited, mainly to customers in the Helsinki region and occasional team meetings in Oulu.

What you bring

  • A proven track record of leading customer engagements, ensuring profitability and growing customer accounts

  • Solid experience and existing network in the public sector, including a working understanding of Finnish public procurement legislation, processes and buying behavior

  • Fluent Finnish, required by our customers, and good English

  • Enough understanding of software development and technology stacks to lead consultative solution sales.

We’d be especially excited if you also have

  • 10+ years of experience in the public or health sector, ideally both, with a mix of customer-side and consulting-side experience

  • 5+ years in leadership positions, including building and leading cross-functional teams in a matrix organization

  • Experience in sales, account management and customer relationships

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

You are an approachable bridge-builder who values collaboration. At the same time, you make decisions when needed and you’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves.

Why join Nortal

  • We care about your growth & development. In Nortal we support constant improvement and knowledge sharing. In addition to the external and internal training, we have a well-established mentorship program and strong 1:1 culture.

  • We always aim high, but at the same time respect work-life balance and don’t forget humor and fun activities together. You are given both freedom and responsibility – the key is that we get great things done together.

  • You have the freedom to work where you work best, and we support flexible working hours. We have also launched the Nortal Nomad program for people wanting to move short-term to some other country.
