About Atoms
In 2016 we noticed something odd. Every serious innovation in footwear went into sport. Everything else defaulted to fast fashion. Nobody was building for the shoe you actually wear — the one that has to work from the subway to the desk to the walk home.
So we built it. Four months to develop the midsole foam. Real copper lining, because copper kills odor and nothing else does it as well. Laces you tie once and never again. And 24 sizes in half size increments, when the industry standard is seven, because feet do not come in seven shapes.
We launched in Brooklyn in 2019, survived a rocky start and a pandemic, and were written about by Humans of New York — which brought us letters, not just orders. More than 63% of our customers come back for another pair.
We are still small, still founder-led, and still working from a co-working space. This is not a company where you will inherit a machine that runs itself. You will be one of a handful of people who make it run.
1. Head of Growth
Type: Full-time, remote, EU/non-US based role, B2B contractor
Reports to: Sidra Qasim, Founder & CEO
Compensation: €50,000 base, plus a €10,000 annual performance component paid in quarterly installments
Location: Anywhere in the EU or UK, Turkey with at least 6 hours of overlap with New York (13:00-21:00 CET)
The job
You own what it costs Atoms to acquire a customer, whether that customer is profitable, and the numbers that prove it either way.
We have specialists on contract. An email and SMS agency. A Meta buyer who will take TikTok as we scale it. Contractors arriving for Google Ads and SEO. Every one of them will send you a report showing their channel performing well. Your job starts where those reports end.
You are the person who holds the truth about this business. Not the person who collects other people's versions of it.
That means three things, and none of them are delegated.
You build the numbers yourself. We run BigQuery with Shopify, Klaviyo, Meta, and spend data flowing into it. You query it. You build the growth model, the cohort view, the contribution margin calculation, and the weekly P&L, and you can defend every figure in them down to the source table. When a contractor's number disagrees with yours, you find out why before the meeting, not during it.
You run channels with your own hands. Reddit and AppLovin live on small budgets and they are yours. Anything new we test lands with you first. Somebody who has not touched an ad account in two years cannot tell when an agency is dressing up a bad month.
You build the creator engine. Our TikTok Shop is live and our affiliate console is built. What we do not have is a machine that reliably turns creators into content and content into sales. We tried the manual version: 59 pairs sent with commission attached, six or seven people posted, one or two videos each. That is roughly $250 to $500 of product per video, for content that costs $100 on the open market. The incentive was not the problem — selection, briefing, and follow-through were. Your first ninety days are spent replacing hope with a system, across both TikTok Shop and Meta.
Every Monday you bring the CEO one view of the business: what we spent everywhere, what it returned, what a new customer cost, and what you are changing this week. Right now the founder builds that view. That is the thing you are being hired to take.
What you will do
What we need to see
Useful, not required
How the performance component works
We would rather be plain about this than let you guess.
The performance component is €10,000 a year, paid in four installments of €2,500 alongside your quarterly invoice.
Your first instalment is earned on a deliverable, not a metric: a working creator program by the end of quarter one, measured in creators posting monthly and sales goals. You will spend your first weeks learning our account and our numbers, and we would rather you spend that time building something than chasing a target you had no hand in setting.
From quarter two, each instalment is earned against two numbers: blended new-customer CAC, and contribution margin per new customer after cost of goods, shipping, returns, and media. We set those targets together before each quarter begins. They move with the season, because footwear is seasonal and a fixed annual target would flatter you in Q4 and punish you in Q1.
What this is not
We are bootstrapped. The media budget is measured in tens of thousands per month, not hundreds. Nobody reports to you as an employee — you direct contractors, which is harder and less comfortable than managing a team, because you hold them to standards without holding their salary.
If your last role gave you a large budget and a team to spend it, this will feel like a step backwards in resources and a step forwards in ownership. Some people want exactly that. Most do not.
One more thing. Atoms sells at a price we defend rather than discount, and our most-quoted piece of copy is a manifesto called "They're not cheap." Channels that reward heavy promotion, TikTok Shop among them, will test that. If your instinct when a channel stalls is to cut price, this will be a difficult place to work.
How to apply
Send a short note answering two questions.
No cover letter beyond that.
Shortlisted candidates receive a 30-45 min assignment. We will send anonymized data across orders, spend, and inventory and ask one open question. There will be no instructions about where to look. What you choose to examine is most of what we are assessing.
