Reporting to: COO / CFO

Start Date: Beginning of February

Duration: Approximately 6 months

We are looking for an experienced, highly pragmatic Interim Head of HR Operations to "hold the fort" during a 6-month maternity leave.

While this role is heavily operational and requires you to roll up your sleeves daily, it is not just an administrative position. We need a leader with the analytical capability to understand the deeper organizational context behind a seemingly "simple question." You will ensure our HR engine runs flawlessly across our international business, with our largest hubs in the Netherland and Toronto.

You will balance day-to-day execution with HR advice, ensuring our managers feel supported and our people processes remain professional, practical, and compliant.

Core Areas of Responsibility

HR Operations & Continuity

You are ultimately responsible for making sure HR runs smoothly day-to-day. This includes overseeing the full employee lifecycle, from hiring and onboarding to performance management and offboarding.

You will:

  • Ensure HR processes are consistent, efficient, and reliable across our primary regions (NL, Toronto, UK) as well as our broader European footprint (Germany, France, Denmark).
  • Maintain and optimize our HR systems (HiBob), focusing on data quality, reporting, and process continuity.
  • Oversee payroll, contracts, and compliance with local labor laws.
  • Keep a close eye on HR data, providing accurate insights to support management and board-level decisions.
  • This is a deeply hands-on role. You are expected to stay close to the details and step in to execute wherever needed.

Business Partnering & Team Support

You will act as a HR business partner for managers across the business (below MT level), helping them deal with people-related challenges in a practical and professional way.

You will:

  • Look beyond the surface of everyday HR inquiries to address root causes, bringing sharp business context to operational support.
  • Coach and support managers on topics like performance, team dynamics, and navigating structural team transitions.
  • Help ensure consistent and fair people management across all departments.
  • Oversee internal communications to keep employees informed, aligned, and engaged.

Strategy & Advisory

While your primary focus is operational continuity, your strategic insight will be relied upon to keep broader initiatives on track.

You will:

  • Advise on organizational design, team structure, and resource optimization as the business evolves.
  • Partner with the COO/CFO to safeguard the overall people strategy, balancing structural integrity with flexibility.
  • Ensure ongoing compensation and benefits frameworks remain competitive and well-managed.
    • Interim Mindset: A proven track record in senior HR roles, ideally with experience stepping into interim positions to provide immediate stability and impact. Experience guiding teams through periods of structural or organizational change is a distinct advantage.
    • Operational & Analytical: You are a "doer" who thrives in the operational weeds, but you possess the strategic intellect to connect the dots and anticipate how small changes impact the bigger picture.
    • International Experience: Familiar with multi-country HR environments, specifically with payroll and labor laws in the Netherlands, and ideally in Canada (Toronto), and the UK.
    • Systems & Data: Experienced with HRIS platforms (preferably HiBob)
    • Communication: A clear, direct communicator who builds trust quickly and works effectively with both senior leadership and operational teams.

What’s in it for you?

  • Competitive salary
  • 25 holidays per year
  • 32-40 hours per week
  • Hybrid working/working from home allowance
  • An open and inclusive culture that fosters personal growth and initiative
  • Daily lunches at the office
  • Access to mental health support through OpenUp is offered anonymously and without cost
