At Moneybox, our mission is to give everyone the means to get more out of life. We're guided by our belief that wealth isn't about the money, it's about the means to more - more freedom, opportunities, possibilities, and peace of mind. Moneybox is an award-winning wealth management platform, helping over one and a half million people build wealth throughout their lives, whether they’re saving and investing, buying their first home, or planning for retirement.
Job Brief
The Head of Risk leads Moneybox's second line risk function. You will own the Risk Management Framework, provide independent oversight and challenge across the firm's principal risks, and give the Executive and Board a clear, forward-looking view of our risk profile.
You will report to the VP Risk & Compliance and lead a team of Risk Business Partners, each aligned to Operations, Technology & AI, and Central Functions. Working alongside the Compliance, Financial Crime and Data Protection teams, you will be the senior risk voice in executive governance and attend the Board Risk Committee where required. This role is not an SMF role.
Moneybox is at an important point in its growth. In your first six to twelve months you will strengthen and embed the Risk Management Framework, build out the Risk Business Partner model, establish proportionate second line oversight of the ICARA and wind-down plan, and develop our approach to model and AI risk as new propositions such as advice come to market.
What You'll Do
● Own, maintain and continually improve the Risk Management Framework, including the risk policy, taxonomy, risk and control self-assessment, incident and KRI standards, so that risk is identified, assessed and managed consistently across the firm.
● Lead, develop and coach the Risk Business Partner team, so that each function has a single, consistent second line partner with the specialist expertise to support and challenge it.
● Provide independent second line oversight and challenge of the firm's principal risks, including operational, operational resilience, third-party, technology, cyber, data, model and strategy execution risk, escalating issues where risk sits outside appetite.
● Oversee and challenge the ICARA and wind-down plan owned by Finance, ensuring scenarios and stress tests are credible, regularly reviewed and reflect market conditions, so the firm is well prepared for supervisory review.
● Maintain the risk appetite framework with the Executive and Board, monitoring performance against appetite and reporting breaches and trends promptly.
● Produce clear, insightful risk reporting and MI for the Executive, Risk Committee and Board Risk Committee, attending the Board Risk Committee where required to present the second line view.
● Provide independent risk opinions on material change, new products and propositions, outsourcing and strategic decisions, so the business can grow within appetite.
● Build and embed a proportionate second line approach to model and AI risk, including the advice engine, working with outsourced model validation providers.
● Support first line risk owners to own their risks and report on them, including KRIs, top risks and control effectiveness, through guidance, training and constructive challenge.
● Lead emerging and strategic risk horizon scanning, ensuring the Executive and Board understand how the risk landscape is evolving.
● Support regulatory engagement on risk matters, including remediation activity and supervisory requests, working closely with the VP Risk & Compliance.
● Drive the effective use of the GRC system and automation in risk processes and reporting, improving efficiency and the quality of risk insight.
Who You Are
● You give a clear, independent view and hold it under pressure, while staying pragmatic about how the business can achieve its goals.
● You are commercially minded and see good risk management as something that enables safe growth, not a brake on it.
● You build trusted relationships at every level, from first line teams to the Executive and Board.
● You enjoy building things, and are comfortable shaping frameworks and a team in a fast-growing, evolving business.
● You communicate complex risk issues simply, in writing and in person, so others can make informed decisions.
● You lead by developing people, and want to grow a capable, motivated team of Risk Business Partners.
Experience & Skills
Essential
● Significant experience in a second line risk role within FCA-regulated financial services, ideally in a wealth management, investment platform or similar consumer-facing business.

● Experience producing risk reporting for, and presenting to, executive and Board-level committees.
● Experience leading and developing a team of risk professionals.
● Experience of risk and control self-assessment, KRIs, incident management and GRC systems.
