Head of Security Engineering & Operations | Global Online Betting Group
Techfellow Limited[Up to c. £170k Comp Package (or equivalent) | *Remote Working - From London, Leeds or Dublin]
Role Overview
We’re representing a large, technology-led consumer group operating multiple digital brands and shared global platforms. This role sits within its central technology organisation and leads a distributed 15-person Security Engineering and Operations function responsible for protecting cloud infrastructure, software delivery environments and business-critical transactional and pricing platforms.
The mandate is not to operate a traditional, tiered SOC. The incoming leader will define and deliver a new security operating model built around engineering, automation and increasingly agentic AI - reducing repetitive analysis, accelerating triage and response, strengthening continuous vulnerability management and removing unnecessary operational toil. This requires someone who can operate at executive level while retaining strong technical judgement. They will set the vision, develop existing security leaders, influence engineering teams globally and shape how security controls are designed across cloud, code and AI-enabled development. The opportunity is fundamentally about building a leaner, more scalable and more technically capable security function rather than growing headcount around legacy processes...
Role Snapshot
- Lead and develop a 15-person, multi-location Security Engineering and Operations organisation, defining its strategy, roadmap, operating model and future capability
- Bring substantial experience leading security engineering or security operations functions through meaningful transformation in cloud-native, fast-moving technology environments
- Redesign traditional SOC workflows around automation and agentic AI, using technology to handle routine triage, enrichment and analysis while keeping appropriate human oversight
- Provide strong technical direction across an AWS-led cloud estate with selective OCI usage, spanning detection and response engineering, continuous vulnerability management, identity, network, application and data security
- Own the evolution of a modern security stack including technologies such as Wiz, CrowdStrike, Splunk, Step Security and AI security posture capabilities, with accountability for integration, value, lifecycle and procurement
- Strengthen security across both conventional software delivery and AI-assisted development pipelines, including controls designed to reduce software supply-chain risk and unintended or insecure machine-generated code
- Build an engineering culture focused on eliminating repetitive manual work, automating controls and continuously improving the quality, speed and scalability of operational security
- Establish mature incident, monitoring, vulnerability and service-management processes, supported by useful security metrics, reporting, escalation paths and recognised frameworks such as NIST
- Mentor team leads and senior engineers, develop internal capability and manage security capacity and budget without defaulting to additional management layers or analyst headcount
- (Preferred) Experience within modern fintech, digital commerce, scale-up, technology or similarly high-change environments where cloud adoption, engineering velocity and business-critical online platforms create significant security demands
