Job Announcement:

Health Policy and Research Fellow

Amid clinical workforce shortages, rising healthcare costs and ongoing concerns about inequity, IMPaCT unlocks the power of the grassroots community health workforce.

Here at IMPaCT Care, we get out of bed every day to remake the American health workforce. We find, train and enable Community Health Workers: caring people who keep their communities healthy. We have built the largest and most scientifically-proven Community Health Worker platform in the country, used across 20 states by 50 organizations like Kaiser Permanente, the Veterans Affairs Administration and United Way. Across multiple randomized controlled trials IMPaCT has achieved outcomes frequently believed to be out of reach, including $2,500 annual savings per patient, improved mental health and a Net Promoter Score of 94. We’re making waves: on CNN, in WaPo, at the Fed…there is even a new Medicare billing code for Community Health Workers that is modeled after IMPaCT.

We’re changing the game, but also know the importance of enjoying the journey. That’s why we have made sure that IMPaCT Care is the place to be! We provide competitive compensation and equity grants, comprehensive benefits, unlimited PTO and plenty of opportunities for team-building and fun. Plus you get to work from home.

Who you are

We're looking for a razor-sharp MPA, MPP or health-related graduate student or recent grad to join our team as part-time Policy and Research Fellow. You're the ideal candidate if you have a passion for health equity, exceptional research and analytical skills, great attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex ideas with clarity and impact. You thrive in ambiguity, excel at critical thinking, and have a talent for connecting the dots to identify long-term opportunities and risks.

In this fully remote role for 10-20 hours per week, you'll work closely with our Director of Public Partnerships (Annie Cloke) and Head of Scale (Dawn Alley) to conduct environmental scans and policy research, synthesize findings and analyze data to generate actionable insights, and develop tools and resources that help community health workers and program leaders implement evidence-based best practices.

If you're a proactive, strategic thinker who wants to make a meaningful impact on the healthcare landscape and the lives of underserved communities, we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct in-depth research using various sources (e.g., industry publications, surveys, and grey materials) and synthesize findings into clear, actionable insights and recommendations, connecting the dots between disparate pieces of information.
  • Analyze surveys and data, identify takeaways and actionable recommendations, and prepare materials that present insights and findings in a clear, accessible way for a broad range of audiences.
  • Support development of tools and resources that help community health workers, program leaders, and policy makers implement evidence-based best practices.
  • Monitor and analyze policy developments and trends related to access to and coverage of community health worker services and policies that support the community health worker workforce and adoption of proven practices (e.g., state Medicaid requirements, payment models, and certification).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (services, community mobilization, and scale) to support strategic decision-making, providing data-driven insights to guide the organization's growth and impact.

What You'll Need

  • Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to gather and interpret data from a wide range of sources, including peer-reviewed journals, grey literature, legislation and regulations, and Excel reports
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify patterns, connect seemingly unrelated information, and draw meaningful conclusions
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational capabilities, with a commitment to delivering client-ready work and a proactive approach to asking questions early
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a willingness to embrace the challenges and opportunities of working in an early-stage, fast-paced organization
  • Passion for healthcare and a commitment to driving long-term, sustainable change in the industry
