HR Advisor
Vorenta Head Office, Woodford, Berkeley, Gloucestershire
Salary: £34,000 - £35,000 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Working arrangement: Hybrid - 4 days in the office, 1 day working from home
Contract: 12 Months - Fixed Term Contract
About the role
Vorenta is growing, and so is our HR team! We’re looking for an experienced HR Advisor to join us on a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave. This is a fantastic opportunity to join us at an exciting time for the business, supporting our people and managers and playing a key role in the day-to-day running of our HR function throughout the maternity cover period.
We’re a small, busy team, so we’re looking for someone who enjoys getting stuck in, building relationships with managers and finding practical solutions to people-related challenges.
You’ll support managers across the business with a range of HR matters, with a particular focus on employee relations. From advising on absence and performance issues to managing disciplinary and grievance cases, you’ll help ensure managers feel supported and employees are treated fairly.
There’s plenty of variety in the role, so alongside your advisory work, you’ll also get involved in the day-to-day running of the HR function, including onboarding administration, maintaining employee records, supporting payroll changes and contributing to HR projects.
You’ll have the opportunity to manage your own workload and work independently, while being part of a close-knit team that works together and supports one another.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting managers with HR advice: Being a go-to person for day-to-day queries and helping managers work through people-related issues.
- Managing employee relations cases: Handling cases involving sickness absence, disciplinary matters, grievances, capability, probation and flexible working, from the initial stages through to resolution.
- Helping managers handle difficult conversations: Providing guidance on policies and procedures, supporting investigations and meetings, and helping managers reach fair and consistent outcomes.
- Supporting employees throughout their journey: Helping with onboarding, inductions, changes to employment and leavers’ processes.
- Keeping HR records up to date: Maintaining accurate employee information on our HR systems and ensuring records are handled confidentially and in line with data protection requirements.
- Looking after HR administration: Preparing contracts, letters and other paperwork, arranging meetings and keeping on top of follow-up actions.
- Supporting payroll and benefits: Making sure changes affecting pay and benefits are recorded correctly and submitted within deadlines.
- Keeping things compliant: Supporting right-to-work checks, security vetting, HR reporting and updates to policies and procedures.
- Getting involved in projects: Working with the wider HR team on projects and improvements to help make our processes work better.
As part of a small team, we all pitch in where needed, so being flexible and happy to support different areas of HR is important.
What we’re looking for
The most important thing is that you have solid experience in an HR advisory role, particularly when it comes to employee relations. You should feel comfortable managing cases independently, using your judgement and knowing when to seek further advice.
We’re looking for someone with:
- Strong HR advisory or employee relations experience, including managing and resolving cases such as absence, disciplinary, grievance and capability matters.
- An approved CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent experience, with the practical knowledge to provide sound HR advice.
- Confidence using HR systems and Microsoft Office, including maintaining records, managing employee information and producing reports.
- A good understanding of UK employment legislation and current HR best practice.
- The ability to build good working relationships with managers at different levels.
- Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
- The confidence to work independently, manage competing priorities and find practical solutions.
- The ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with care.
You don’t need to know everything, but you should be happy to take ownership of your work, ask questions when needed and work with the team to find the right solutions.
It would be great if you also have:
- Experience working in a regulated environment.
- An understanding of the veterinary or agrifood sectors.
- Experience supporting organisational changes, HR projects or manager training.
What’s on offer?
- A 12-month fixed-term contract covering maternity leave, offering the opportunity to make a real contribution to the business.
- A Monday-to-Friday working pattern, with 37.5 hours per week.
- Hybrid working, with four days in the office and one day working from home.
- A pension scheme available after three months.
- Access to a Simplyhealth plan and Perkbox following successful completion of probation.
- Free onsite parking.
- A friendly, close-knit and supportive team, with regular team lunches and social outings.
- A varied role where you can take ownership of your work, contribute to the wider business and continue developing your HR skills.
Our office is set in the Gloucestershire countryside, surrounded by beautiful walks that are perfect for a lunchtime stroll. It’s also within easy walking distance of shops, coffee spots and a range of places to grab lunch, giving you plenty of options when it’s time to take a break.
We’re proud to have a team that values collaboration, openness, integrity and quality, and we’re looking for someone who shares those values and enjoys being part of a supportive team.
