Overview
Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for an HR Technology Specialist in the New York office.
The Opportunity: The HR Technology Specialist provides day-to-day support for HR systems and employee data, with a primary focus on accurate transaction processing, data quality, user support, and reliable service delivery. The role also develops a strong understanding of how HR systems, data, and processes work together to support the employee lifecycle and broader HR operations.
Working with HR, Payroll, Benefits, Talent, Technology, and other stakeholders, the Specialist processes employee data, responds to system and process questions, investigates issues, and supports data validation and reporting activities. The role also contributes to system testing, documentation, process improvements, and team-led technology initiatives.
Success in the role requires more than accurate execution. The Specialist should be curious about how work flows across systems and teams, understand the downstream impact of data and process decisions, and look for opportunities to improve the employee and stakeholder experience. Larger projects, solution design, and cross-functional initiatives will be led by more senior team members.
Responsibilities
- Process employee lifecycle transactions and maintain accurate employee, organizational, and position data in HR systems.
- Review requests and documentation for completeness and appropriate approvals, following up or escalating as needed.
- Respond to HR technology support requests and provide first-level assistance to employees, managers, and HR colleagues.
- Research routine system, data, and process issues using available resources and escalate more complex matters appropriately.
- Support routine imports, interfaces, queries, audits, and data validation activities; research discrepancies and coordinate corrections.
- Maintain clear documentation, job aids, FAQs, request notes, and other knowledge resources.
- Identify recurring data or process issues and share practical ideas for improving efficiency, accuracy, and service.
- Participate in system enhancements, upgrades, implementations, workflow improvements, and other projects, including requirements documentation, testing, and change support.
- Follow established data privacy, security, governance, and confidentiality requirements.
- Build knowledge of HR processes, systems, integrations, workflows, and the relationship between HR data and technology.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- One to three years of experience in Human Resources, HR operations, HRIS, shared services, business operations, or a related environment.
- Foundational understanding of HR systems, data, and processes.
- Ability and willingness to learn new systems, platforms, and business processes.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and commitment to data accuracy.
- Strong customer service, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, follow established procedures, and recognize when guidance or escalation is needed.
- Curiosity about how HR processes, systems, and data work together, with an interest in understanding downstream impacts and improving how work is performed.
- Resourcefulness and sound judgment when researching questions, resolving routine issues, and working with unfamiliar systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Preferred
- Experience supporting an HR system, enterprise application, case management, or ticketing platform.
- Experience working with employee data, operational workflows, or service queues.
- Exposure to system testing, process documentation, data validation, or continuous improvement.
- Experience in a professional services or similarly complex organization.
- Demonstrated ability to identify recurring issues, suggest practical improvements, and contribute effectively to team-led initiatives.
- Experience collaborating across functions and adapting to new processes, systems, or technologies.

Compensation and Benefits
The expected salary range for this position is between $70,000 and $80,000.
Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick’s estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
