Adventure is our Culture. Join a team that celebrates a lifestyle as bold as the terrain we love. At Backcountry, we are rooted in adventure, recognition, and wellbeing on and off the mountain. We spotlight employee stories, celebrate milestones, and offer exclusive outdoor perks. Whether you are at HQ, in a retail store, or remote, you will be part of a team that thrives on energy, exploration, and connection.

Reports to: VP, Human Resources

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah (Hybrid - 3x/week in-office)

About the Role

Backcountry's Salt Lake City corporate office is home to the teams that run the business day to day. This role is the dedicated HR partner for that office—your focus stays squarely on corporate employees and the leaders who manage them, while peer HR managers cover fulfillment centers, call centers, and retail stores.

As Human Resources Manager, Corporate, you will own employee relations, performance management, onboarding, training, and engagement across the corporate office. Within the first year, success means corporate leaders see you as a trusted, hands-on partner, the annual performance cycle runs on time with consistent and well-documented outcomes, and employee relations issues are resolved promptly and fairly.

This is a lean team. You will own a lot, move fast, and make decisions with full end-to-end responsibility.

What You'll Do

HR Business Partnership

  • Serve as the primary HR partner for corporate office leaders and employees, advising on team structure, people issues, and day-to-day HR questions.
  • Coach managers on giving feedback, handling difficult conversations, and building strong teams.
  • Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Manage employee relations for the corporate office, including investigations, corrective action, and clear documentation.
  • Apply company policies consistently and keep corporate HR practices compliant with federal and Utah employment law.
  • Talent & Performance Management

  • Run the performance review process for the corporate office, including goal setting, calibration support, and follow-through with managers.
  • Support compensation reviews, promotions, and job leveling for corporate roles in partnership with HR leadership.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition on hiring needs and own a strong onboarding experience for new corporate hires.
  • Learning & Development

  • Coordinate and deliver training for corporate employees and managers, covering manager fundamentals, compliance, and professional development.
  • Employee Engagement

  • Plan and run engagement initiatives for the corporate office, including recognition programs, survey action planning, and events that reflect Backcountry's outdoor culture.
  • Cross-Team Partnership

  • Collaborate with peer HR managers supporting fulfillment, call center, and retail teams to keep policies and practices aligned across Backcountry.
  • Support the people side of organizational changes affecting the corporate office, such as reorganizations or acquisition integrations.
  • Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 2 years as an HR generalist or HR business partner supporting corporate or professional employees.
  • Hands-on employee relations experience, including conducting investigations and documenting outcomes.
  • Experience running or supporting a performance management cycle.
  • Working knowledge of federal and Utah employment law (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, and related requirements).
  • Experience delivering training or facilitating workshops for employees and managers.
  • Strong communication skills and the credibility to advise managers and senior leaders.
  • Highly organized and comfortable working in an HRIS.
  • Must currently live in the Salt Lake City area and be able to work in-office 3x/week.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
  • Experience in an e-commerce, retail, or consumer brand environment.
  • Exposure to organizational change or acquisition integration from an HR perspective.
