About the Role
An AI-enabled Canadian immigration law firm is seeking a Managing Attorney to lead legal operations and people across multiple immigration practice areas. This role connects legal quality and risk management with efficient operations and business outcomes.
What You'll Do
Monitor operational health and workflow metrics across immigration practice areas, including Express Entry, Family Class, work permits, criminal inadmissibility, and citizenship by descent.
Lead lawyers, practice leads, and case managers through coaching, performance management, capacity planning, and staffing decisions.
Track operational and business measures such as cost per file and team efficiency.
Serve as the final legal escalation point, maintaining quality standards and making risk decisions across cases.
Partner with product and engineering teams to improve legal workflows using AI and automation.
Support continuity and transitions across legal teams and practice areas.
What We're Looking For
Four to fifteen years of relevant experience, including substantial Canadian immigration law experience.
Licensed to practise law in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario, with a law degree and authorization to practise in Canada.
Experience across permanent residence and Express Entry, Family Class, and work permits or criminal inadmissibility.
Experience managing lawyers and non-lawyer staff, including performance management and staffing decisions.
Sound legal judgment, experience handling high-volume caseloads, and the ability to own quality and risk escalations.
Comfort working in a fast-moving environment and partnering on workflow automation. The role uses Claude Co-Work and Claude Code.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: CAD $160,000 to $200,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is not available.
Location
Hybrid in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, with three days per week in the office.
