Inbound Lead Development Specialist
School Outfitters | ESOP | No Weekends or Holidays | Hybrid Work Environment (4 days in office, 1-day WFH)

Build a Career with a Healthy Culture, Meaningful Work, and a Team That Believes in People.
Why This Role Matters

At School Outfitters, our culture starts with five core values: Believe in People, Enjoy the Journey, Relentlessly Search for Better, Live the Golden Rule, and Play to Win. These values shape how we support one another, serve our customers, solve problems, and celebrate success. If you are a recent college graduate looking to launch your career with meaningful work, a healthy team culture, strong benefits, and an employee-owned company where your contribution matters, this is the place to start. You don’t need sales experience—if you bring the right skills and drive, we will teach you how to succeed.

Our mission is to help educators prepare people for the future by getting their orders done right. School environments make a difference, and we help facilitate the dreams of educators nationwide by creating thriving, productive, and conducive learning spaces where their students and communities can succeed. School Outfitters transforms more than 40,000 education spaces each year, giving you the opportunity to connect your sales success to a purpose that matters.

In this role, you will combine consultative selling, urgency, persistence, organization, and genuine care for the customer. Success means more than answering an inquiry or creating a quote—it means owning the opportunity through the buying process, helping educators bring their vision to life, and driving the opportunity toward an order.
How Can You Make An Impact In This role?
Are you looking to start or grow your career in sales? School Outfitters is seeking an enthusiastic, customer focused inbound lead development specialist to join our Sales team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys connecting with people, asking questions, uncovering customer needs and developing skills needed to become a successful sales professional.
In this role, you'll connect with customers who have already expressed interest in School Outfitters by submitting inquiries through our website. Through outbound phone calls, you'll learn about their projects, identify purchasing needs, and help connect them with the right sales representative.
This is a sales-focused position designed to build a strong foundation in customer discovery, relationship building, lead qualification, and sales communication.
Unlike a traditional outbound sales position, this role does not require cold calling, independent prospecting, or generating new leads. The primary responsibility is to follow up on customers who have already expressed interest in School Outfitters.
The ideal candidate enjoys talking with customers, asking thoughtful questions, and helping customers take the next step in their purchasing process.
Key Responsibilities
  • Make outbound calls to customers who have submitted online inquiries or requested information.
  • Engage customers in meaningful conversations to understand their needs, project scope, purchasing timelines, and next steps.
  • Ask thoughtful discovery questions to identify qualified sales opportunities.
  • Build rapport and create a positive first impression of School Outfitters.
  • Accurately document customer conversations and opportunities in HubSpot.
  • Connect qualified customers with the appropriate Account Manager for quoting and purchasing assistance.
  • Maintain consistent follow-up with customers who have not yet responded or are not ready to purchase.
  • Meet established outreach, qualification, and customer engagement expectations.
  • Participate in sales coaching, product training, and professional development.
What We're Looking For/Qualifications
  • Previous customer service, retail sales, inside sales, or phone-based experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to make at least 80+ outbound calls per day.
  • Confidence and enthusiasm when speaking with customers by phone.
  • Natural curiosity and the ability to ask thoughtful questions.
  • Self-motivation, dependability, and a positive attitude.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Comfort learning CRM systems and new technology.
  • A genuine interest in building a long-term career in sales.
Schedule
  • Monday – Friday 9:00am – 6:00pm
  • Work from home on Fridays
  • No weekends or Holidays
Career Growth & Development
At School Outfitters, we believe strong sales professionals start with understanding customers.
This position provides hands-on experience in the early stages of the sales process, including customer discovery, identifying opportunities, qualifying leads, and developing customer relationships.
You'll work alongside experienced sales professionals, receive ongoing coaching and product training, and build skills that can prepare you for future opportunities in Account Management, Inside Sales, or other sales-related roles.
We're looking for someone who sees this position as an opportunity to learn, contribute, and grow—not simply make phone calls.
What Success Looks Like
  • Website inquiries receive timely outreach.
  • Customers are successfully contacted and their needs are understood.
  • Qualified opportunities reach Account Managers with accurate, useful information.
  • Customers requiring future follow-up are not overlooked.
  • Sales representatives spend less time qualifying incomplete inquiries and more time quoting and closing business.
