Have you built your career around independent assurance, nuclear safety, and improving performance in complex regulated environments? Do you enjoy providing constructive challenge that helps major projects succeed? At EDF, Success is Personal. Join us and help strengthen the governance, safety, and assurance that underpin one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes.
The Opportunity
As an Independent Assessor, you'll provide independent review, challenge, and insight across key project activities, helping to maintain a nuclear safety overview while supporting continuous improvement. Your work will influence senior leaders, strengthen organisational effectiveness, and help ensure best practice is embedded across the project.
You’ll join us on a salary starting of £65,000 per annum. This is a hybrid role based at #AztecWest in Bristol, with occasional travel to #HinkleyPointC in Bridgwater to collaborate with environmental, safety, assurance, and corporate specialists across the business.
Working within Independent Nuclear Regulation, you'll assess project processes, governance, and management systems against UK and international standards. You'll contribute to our journey towards An Electric Britain by identifying opportunities for improvement, presenting findings to senior stakeholders, and supporting excellence across nuclear safety, quality, environmental, security, and operational performance.
Who You Are
We’re looking for an Independent Assessor who combines technical credibility with the confidence to challenge and influence senior stakeholders in a highly regulated environment. You'll be organised, analytical, and comfortable leading assessment activities across complex projects. To be shortlisted, you need to offer:
- A degree in an engineering, scientific, or related discipline, or equivalent experience
- Significant experience within a nuclear, highly regulated, or technically complex industry
- Demonstrable experience of assurance, assessment, auditing, inspection, or oversight activities
- Strong knowledge of UK regulatory requirements, including areas such as Nuclear Site Licence conditions, environmental permitting, or health and safety legislation
- Experience presenting findings, recommendations, and independent challenge to senior managers and directors
- Proven ability to analyse complex processes and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
- Expertise in at least one key nuclear or regulated discipline such as nuclear safety, engineering, supply chain, environmental, security, operations, or safety case management
To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Conducting independent assessments of project and business processes to provide assurance and challenge
- Producing clear findings and recommendations that support improved performance and regulatory compliance
- Presenting independent views and assurance outputs to senior leaders, committees, and regulators
- Analysing information from assessments, inspections, audits, and learning events to identify trends and risks
- Leading or supporting multi-disciplinary assessment teams across assurance activities
Pay, Benefits and Culture
Alongside a salary starting of £65,000 per annum, potential for an annual bonus, and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more.
