Our client is a distinguished Australian shopfitting and commercial construction firm. They backed by deep roots in the retail industry -leadership brings hands-on multi-site retail experience, offering clients real understanding and strategic alignment with business goals.

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking an Industrial Designer to develop concepts and detailed shop drawings for metal retail fixtures, racking and joinery. The role works closely with the sales team, clients and overseas manufacturers to turn design requests into practical, manufacturable products.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Prepare accurate shop drawings for approved concepts and for designs or drawings supplied by clients.

  • Present shop drawings to clients, manage revisions and obtain sign-off in accordance with company procedures.

  • Maintain the shop drawing register to track iterations and approvals.

  • Complete drawing and approval work within timeframes advised by the Sales Team Leader.

  • Prepare, name and file all drawings in accordance with company policy. Use the required filing structure and shared folders when providing drawings to clients.

  • Apply manufacturing knowledge and value engineering to ensure designs are practical, efficient to produce and aligned with the design intent.

  • Communicate with overseas manufacturers and review manufacturing updates against approved shop drawings to confirm that products are being made as specified.

  • Keep the sales team, clients and other relevant parties informed, including weekly status updates for each project.

  • Produce conceptual drawings in SolidWorks for client presentations. Concepts may adapt fixtures from the existing range, develop new products, or add technical detail to ideas and AI generated images supplied by the sales team.

  • Develop new items and modify existing products for the Retail Fixtures Australia range.


Requirements

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least three years experience using SolidWorks for conceptual and detailed technical drawings.

  • In-depth knowledge of metal retail racking and its working components, together with experience in warehouse racking.

  • Experience producing detailed joinery drawings and specifying materials and finishes, including timber, laminates, metal finishes, PVD, electroplating and zinc coatings.

  • Strong understanding of fixings and manufacturing methods, with the ability to build value engineering into fixture and joinery designs.

  • Ability to interpret client requirements, resolve design details and manage drawings through revision and approval.

  • Strong organisational and communication skills, including the ability to coordinate with overseas manufacturers.

  • Chinese language skills to support direct communication with factories in China.

Key performance indicators:

  • Accuracy of drawings: Concept and shop drawings are complete, technically correct, consistent with the design brief and suitable for client approval and manufacture.

  • Timeliness of project delivery: Drawings, revisions, approvals and weekly status updates are completed within the timeframes agreed with the Sales Team Leader.

  • Alignment with customer expectations: Approved designs and manufactured outcomes meet the customer's agreed requirements and design intent.
