Infrastructure Support Engineer – Hybrid Cloud & AWS

Neos Networks offers alternative working arrangements that give employees some flexibility, including office, home and hybrid working.

Base location: Havant, Hampshire – hybrid working, with a minimum of 2 days per week in the office

Salary: Competitive depending on experience, plus performance-related bonus and a range of benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working pattern: Permanent, full-time – 37 hours per week, including participation in an out-of-hours standby rota.

Infrastructure Support Engineer – Hybrid Cloud & AWS

Our ambition drives us to seek out new opportunities and continually develop the knowledge, skills and capabilities of our business. We believe in creating an inclusive culture, giving everyone the confidence, direction and support to grow and improve.

Due to the operational requirements of the role, candidates must live within approximately one hour's travelling distance of the Havant office.

The successful candidate will also be required to obtain and maintain appropriate Security Check (SC) clearance.

Role Description

We are looking for an experienced Infrastructure Support Engineer with strong hands-on experience across both AWS cloud environments and traditional on-premises datacentre infrastructure.

This is a genuine hybrid infrastructure role. AWS experience is an essential requirement and candidates must be able to demonstrate previous practical experience designing, deploying, supporting and troubleshooting AWS infrastructure across a range of AWS technologies and services.

You will support and maintain the core infrastructure underpinning our network management and operational platforms, covering both cloud-hosted and on-premises environments.

The role includes deploying new infrastructure solutions, maintaining and improving existing platforms, monitoring availability and performance, carrying out preventative maintenance and resolving complex infrastructure faults.

You will work closely with other infrastructure, security, network and application teams to deliver projects, resolve incidents and continually improve the resilience and security of our platforms.

Security and regulatory compliance are fundamental to the role, including adherence to ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus and Telecoms Security Act requirements.

Essential AWS and Hybrid Cloud Experience

Strong practical AWS experience is essential for this position.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate significant previous experience administering and supporting production AWS environments rather than simply having theoretical knowledge or AWS certification.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have worked across several areas of AWS, for example:

  • EC2 and associated compute services
  • VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups and network connectivity
  • IAM, roles, policies and access management
  • S3 and cloud storage services
  • AWS backup, recovery and resilience
  • CloudWatch, logging, alerting and monitoring
  • AWS Systems Manager
  • Load balancing and high-availability architectures
  • AWS security services and security best practices
  • Connectivity between AWS and on-premises environments
  • Migration or transformation of workloads between datacentre and cloud environments
  • Troubleshooting complex issues spanning cloud, networking, operating systems and applications
  • Cost, capacity and performance optimisation within AWS

You do not need to have worked with every AWS service listed above; however, you must be able to demonstrate substantial hands-on AWS experience across multiple areas.

Experience working within a hybrid cloud environment, integrating AWS services with on-premises infrastructure, is essential.

Key Accountabilities

Infrastructure Delivery & Maintenance

  • Ensure the availability, security, resilience and performance of both AWS-hosted and on-premises infrastructure.
  • Support, administer and troubleshoot production AWS environments.
  • Assist with the architecture, design, deployment and ongoing maintenance of cloud and datacentre infrastructure.
  • Support applications, servers, operating systems, networks, storage, backup services and associated infrastructure.
  • Support connectivity and integration between AWS and on-premises environments.
  • Automate repetitive infrastructure and operational tasks to improve efficiency, consistency and reliability.
  • Implement and maintain effective infrastructure monitoring, alerting and security controls.
  • Carry out capacity, performance and availability monitoring and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate infrastructure documentation.
  • Maintain the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and IT Service Catalogue to ensure infrastructure information remains accurate and current.
  • Participate in an out-of-hours standby rota to support critical incidents, planned maintenance and other operational requirements.

Compliance & Security

  • Ensure infrastructure is operated in accordance with applicable security and regulatory requirements, including ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus and the Telecoms Security Act.
  • Work closely with the Security Team to implement and maintain appropriate technical security controls.
  • Apply secure configuration standards and industry best practice, including CIS Benchmarks where applicable.
  • Ensure cloud and on-premises systems are appropriately patched, hardened, monitored and protected.
  • Support vulnerability management, remediation and security improvement activities.
  • Apply appropriate identity, access and privilege-management controls across cloud and datacentre environments.

Project Delivery

  • Support infrastructure projects from initial design and planning through to implementation and operational handover.
  • Provide technical input into infrastructure architecture and design decisions.
  • Assist with cloud migrations, infrastructure upgrades and technology refresh programmes.
  • Work with internal teams, suppliers and third parties to ensure projects are delivered successfully.
  • Ensure new infrastructure solutions meet operational, security, resilience and supportability requirements.
