About us
At National Gas, the work we do matters.
As Britain's national gas network, we help keep the lights on, businesses running, and homes warm by maintaining the critical infrastructure that transports gas across Great Britain. While providing the energy security Britain relies on today, we're also helping transform the network for a clean energy future.
Join us and help secure Britain's energy.
About the role
As Innovation Delivery Lead for Energy Security & Network Resilience, you'll lead a strategically important innovation portfolio focused on strengthening network resilience and supporting the UK's energy security. You'll translate business priorities into a focused roadmap of innovation projects, delivering solutions that create measurable value for National Gas, customers, and the wider energy system.
Energy security and network resilience are critical to the future of Great Britain's energy infrastructure. In this role, you'll shape and deliver innovation programmes that help National Gas respond to emerging challenges, reduce uncertainty, and identify future investment opportunities.
Working across the business and with external partners, you'll lead projects from concept through to implementation, ensuring innovation outcomes inform future standards, policies, asset strategies, and operational practices. Your work will directly influence how National Gas maintains a safe, resilient, and reliable network for years to come.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead the Energy Security & Network Resilience innovation roadmap and prioritised portfolio, aligned to business strategy and future investment needs.
- Develop and manage a balanced pipeline of innovation opportunities, ensuring projects are evidence-based and focused on business outcomes.
- Deliver innovation projects through the full lifecycle, from concept and funding through to implementation and closure.
- Manage project governance, budgets, risks, dependencies, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
- Develop business cases, funding submissions, and project scopes to secure internal and external investment.
- Build strong relationships with business stakeholders, suppliers, academic partners, and industry organisations.
- Translate successful project outcomes into practical business improvements, including changes to standards, policies, engineering practices, and asset strategies.
What you’ll bring
Essential
- Degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline, or HNC/HND supported by substantial relevant experience.
- Experience leading complex cross-functional projects or portfolios through influence rather than direct management.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to challenge constructively, negotiate priorities, and build commitment.
- Experience developing and managing programmes or portfolios from initial concept through delivery and implementation.
- Strong project management capability covering scope, cost, quality, risk, resource, and benefits management.
- Experience developing business cases, project scopes, funding bids, and delivery plans.
- Ability to translate complex technical, commercial, and regulatory information into clear recommendations and actions.
Desirable
- Knowledge of innovation funding mechanisms such as NIA and SIF.
- Understanding of National Gas Transmission, its assets, operating environment, and strategic challenges.
- Experience within regulated or safety-critical environments.
- Commercial and contract management experience, including supplier performance and procurement.
- Experience of multidisciplinary engineering, technology, operational, or asset-management projects.
Security clearance
This role is subject to National Security Vetting (NSV). Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain Security Clearance (SC) throughout their employment. For further information, visit www.gov.uk (UK Security Vetting: Clearance Levels).
What we offer
- Market-leading double-match pension (up to 12% company contribution)
- Annual performance bonus up to 6%
- Access to the Tusker salary sacrifice car scheme
- 26 days holiday (plus statutory holidays)
- 10x salary life assurance and income protection
- Flexible benefits including healthcare, dental, and technology options
