Please log in to verify your internal candidate status. This position has a term length of 2 years from the date of hire. Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton. Reporting to an Associate Director of the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), the Instructional Designer - AI and Assessment, supports instructors and instructional teams in designing effective, innovative, and evidence-informed approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment. The position provides particular expertise in the thoughtful use of AI to enhance teaching and learning and support evolving approaches to assessment. As a member of the CTL team, the Instructional Designer: Develops and delivers professional learning and resources on AI, assessment, and instructional design. Provides consultation to instructors and instructional teams on course and assessment design across face-to-face, online, remote, and blended contexts. Promotes and models effective teaching practices aligned with the Teaching, Learning, and Evaluation Policy and Framework for Effective Teaching. Collaborates across CTL to develop coherent, integrated programming and services. Contributes to the evaluation and continuous improvement of CTL programs and services through evidence-informed and scholarly approaches. As the university’s centre for expertise in teaching and learning, CTL supports instructors, academic leaders, and programs through research-informed, inclusive, and student-centred approaches that strengthen teaching practice and student learning. Guided by institutional priorities, including Shape: A Strategic Plan of Impact, Braiding Past, Present and Future, and Changing the Story, CTL advances teaching and learning through reflection, peer learning, innovation, and partnership. The Centre is committed to inclusive, anti-colonial, and relational approaches that critically examine colonial structures in higher education and support the integration of Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing into teaching, learning, curriculum, and assessment. Working collaboratively across faculties and institutional units, CTL builds capacity for meaningful and sustainable improvements in teaching and learning across diverse disciplinary and academic contexts. Learning and Instructional Design Support — 40% Provide consultations to instructors and instructional teams on course design, delivery, instructional technologies, and learning environments. Support the design of accessible, effective, and evidence-informed learning experiences aligned with the Framework for Effective Teaching. Develop and maintain accessible instructional resources that support instructors across levels of experience. Collaborate with CTL colleagues and university partners to align resources and support with institutional priorities. Professional Learning and Programming — 40% Design and deliver professional learning, workshops, and other learning opportunities for instructors and instructional teams. Tailor programming to diverse audiences, disciplines, career stages, and teaching contexts, including in-person, online, and blended environments. Apply evidence-informed approaches and adult learning principles to the design and delivery of programming. Collaborate with CTL colleagues to develop customized and team-based learning opportunities. Evaluate programming and use participant feedback and other evidence to inform continuous improvement. Operations, Professional Practice and Emerging Priorities — 20% Develop quarterly portfolio plans aligned with CTL’s annual goals and strategic priorities. Contribute to CTL committees, operational activities, and unit-wide initiatives. Maintain and develop expertise in instructional design, pedagogy, educational technologies, and emerging developments in post-secondary teaching and learning. Respond to emerging institutional and teaching and learning priorities through specialized educational development activities and strategic initiatives. Undertake other related duties as assigned. An Undergraduate degree in educational technology, adult education, or a related field is required. A Master's degree is preferred. A minimum of 3 years experience in instructional design and demonstrated effectiveness as a facilitator/instructor in the post-secondary context. Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, backward design). Proven knowledge of evidence-based pedagogical approaches and learner-centered teaching practices grounded in adult learning principles. Proficiency in the integration of digital learning tools and technologies into diverse learning environments, with a commitment to accessible, inclusive teaching. Exceptional consultative and communication skills, with the ability to build trust, influence and engage stakeholders positively. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and adapt communication styles to meet the needs of various audiences and learners. Ability to work independently and in a team environment, demonstrating respect, dignity, and integrity in working relationships. Experience providing client-centred services and programming within the post-secondary environment. Ability to listen actively, seek out advice, and contribute insights and new ideas related to work assignments. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize competing demands, meet deadlines, and complete detail-oriented work.
