You’ll integrate University-approved AI tools and frameworks into design workflows where they demonstrably add value for student learning and the faculty experience. Working alongside AI Learning Solutions Architects, UX researchers, data scientists, and fellow designers, you’ll pilot and refine AI-assisted workflows, hold AI-generated materials to a rigorous pedagogical quality standard, and turn what works into repeatable practices that elevate the learner experience and drive transformative learning outcomes across your program portfolio.
This is more than a job. It’s an opportunity to be part of a future-thinking, mission-driven team shaping the future of digital learning at the world's most innovative university.
NOTE: This is an in-person, hybrid position. You must be able to reliably commute to Scottsdale, AZ.
Essential Duties:
- Lead Learning Experience Design: Collaborate with faculty, subject matter experts, and project teams to design, develop, and implement engaging, accessible, and instructionally sound learning experiences and assessments aligned with learning objectives, program goals, Universal Design for Learning principles, and the needs of diverse audiences.
- AI-Assisted Design and Faculty Co-Creation: Partner with faculty to responsibly integrate University-approved AI tools throughout the course design cycle; facilitate rapid prototyping and co-design; evaluate where AI adds meaningful value; and test and document workflows that preserve faculty expertise and academic voice while advancing learning impact, accessibility, academic integrity, data privacy, and shared institutional knowledge.
- Technology Integration: Recommend, evaluate, pilot, and integrate content-authoring platforms, presentation tools, university-approved AI applications, and other emerging educational technologies using learner and faculty feedback, usability findings, and data to develop effective instructional solutions and guide adoption decisions.
- Pedagogical Excellence and Student-Facing AI: Design innovative, evidence-based learning experiences—including simulations, gamification, VR/AR, adaptive learning, microlearning, and student-facing AI tools—that align with learning goals, support applied learning and personalized feedback, incorporate appropriate human oversight and guardrails, and strengthen students’ critical thinking and responsible use of AI.
- Quality Assurance Leadership: Lead quality assurance, program assessment, and learning-effectiveness evaluation by reviewing course content and AI-assisted materials for accuracy, alignment, accessibility, and pedagogical soundness. Use analytics, performance data, and evidence-based methods to improve student outcomes, faculty experience, and technology effectiveness.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Manage stakeholder relationships and collaborate with faculty, AI Learning Solutions Architects, UX researchers, technologists, project managers, graphic designers, and other partners to advance strategic initiatives, integrate contributions accurately, and align instructional design work with institutional objectives.

- Continuous Improvement: Stay current on learning theories, learning science research, instructional best practices, emerging technologies and research on AI in teaching and learning effectiveness. Apply learning theories to practice by writing learning objectives, curating content, and incorporating evidence-based instructional design principles.
- Mentorship: Mentor Instructional Designer Associates and junior Instructional Designers, providing guidance and professional development support, including guiding peers on integrating AI-assisted workflows and UX methods into daily design practice.
- General: Assume or coordinate other duties or projects as assigned or directed.
