Full-time

Description

Are you an experienced Vertafore MGA Systems/IMS professional looking for an opportunity to make an impact in a growing specialty insurance organization?

Arbour Specialty is seeking a motivated Insurance Systems Engineer to serve as the primary technical owner of our Vertafore MGA Systems/IMS platform. In this hands-on role, reporting directly to our Group Chief Information Officer, you'll administer and configure the platform, build and support integrations, write SQL and reports, and manage our relationship with Vertafore. If you enjoy moving between configuration, troubleshooting, APIs, data, and business users — and you understand how an MGA or wholesale brokerage really runs — we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do

As our Insurance Systems Engineer, you will be the go-to technical expert for MGA Systems/IMS. You'll work closely with underwriting, operations, accounting, and business leadership to keep the platform running smoothly today and evolving with the business tomorrow.

Key responsibilities include:

MGA Systems / IMS Administration and Engineering

  • Serve as the primary technical administrator, engineer, and subject matter expert for the Vertafore MGA Systems/IMS platform.
  • Manage day-to-day system administration, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, security coordination, and production support.
  • Evaluate and implement configuration changes that support new and existing products, programs, carriers, and business processes.
  • Partner with underwriting, operations, accounting, and other business teams to translate requirements into practical system solutions.
  • Plan and execute testing for system changes, enhancements, fixes, and integrations before production deployment.
  • Monitor recurring issues and recommend improvements to system reliability, usability, data quality, and operational efficiency.

API, Integration, and Technical Development

  • Develop, configure, support, and troubleshoot integrations between MGA Systems and third-party applications and services.
  • Work with internal teams, vendors, and business partners to establish and maintain API-based connectivity.
  • Interpret API documentation and troubleshoot authentication, requests, responses, data structures, and integration errors.
  • Assist with data mapping, validation, and transformation between MGA Systems and external platforms.
  • Develop scripts and lightweight utilities to automate repetitive processes, facilitate data movement, validate data, or improve operational efficiency.
  • Participate in integration testing and issue resolution across development, test, and production environments.

Data, SQL, and Reporting

  • Write and execute SQL queries to retrieve, validate, and analyze information from MGA Systems databases and related data sources.
  • Create useful operational and management reports that support informed business decisions.
  • Assist business users and leaders with ad hoc data analysis and reporting requests.
  • Investigate data discrepancies and help resolve issues across systems, interfaces, and reports.
  • Support recurring data extracts, carrier reporting, bordereaux, and other operational data requirements.

Business Partnership and User Support

  • Reports directly to the Group Chief Information Officer.
  • Serve as a trusted technology partner for Arbour Specialty leaders and MGA Systems users.
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of the underwriting, policy administration, accounting, claims, and operational workflows supported by the platform.
  • Evaluate system change requests, clarify requirements, and recommend practical solutions that balance business value, risk, effort, and maintainability.
  • Coordinate user acceptance testing, implementation, documentation, and communication for enhancements.
  • Provide technical guidance and support when complex application, integration, reporting, or data issues arise.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual work and improve processes through configuration, integration, scripting, and automation.

Vendor and Third-Party Management

  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between Arbour Specialty and Vertafore for MGA Systems/IMS.
  • Open, document, prioritize, manage, and monitor support cases, enhancement requests, and technical issues through resolution.
  • Maintain clear communication with affected stakeholders regarding status, risks, workarounds, and resolution plans.
  • Coordinate technical activities with third-party vendors whose products or services integrate with MGA Systems.
  • Maintain documentation of system configurations, integrations, vendor cases, procedures, changes, and key technical decisions.

What We're Looking For

Requirements:

  • Hands-on experience administering, configuring, supporting, or developing within Vertafore MGA Systems/IMS (required)
  • Experience in an MGA, wholesale brokerage, program administrator, or specialty insurance environment
  • Working knowledge of MGA and wholesale insurance workflows and terminology
  • Experience supporting business-critical insurance applications in production
  • Experience with REST APIs, web services, or other integration technologies
  • Strong SQL skills for data retrieval, analysis, reporting, and troubleshooting
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot application, database, integration, and data issues
  • Experience managing technical issues with third-party software vendors through resolution
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical teams and non-technical business users
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and take ownership

Preferred:

  • Python, PowerShell, or other scripting experience for automation, data, or integration work
  • Experience with JSON, XML, CSV, and API testing tools
  • Experience with bordereaux, carrier reporting, or management reporting from relational databases
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, Power BI, or similar cloud and BI platforms
  • Experience with source control and basic software development practices
  • Experience integrating insurance platforms with document management, accounting, rating, CRM, or other third-party systems
