Position Summary
The Insurance and Claims Specialist role provides administrative and analytical support for the organization’s insurance programs, claims management and related litigation matters; assists with claims administration and tracking, insurance renewals, litigation administration, reporting, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders to support effective risk management and claims resolution.
Essential Job Duties:
- Maintain insurance policies, endorsements, certificates, correspondence, and related records to ensure completeness and accuracy,
- Monitor claims activity from initial reporting through final resolution,
- Serve as a liaison and respond to requests from insurance brokers, carriers, third-party administrators, legal counsel, and internal stakeholders,
- Assist with claim investigations, fact gathering and evidence collection,
- Coordinate the collection of information and supporting documentation from internal departments related to claims and litigation matters,
- Maintain litigation tracking systems,
- Review legal invoices and monitor litigation expenses and budgets,
- Coordinate document retention, records management and evidence preservation related to claims and litigation matters,
- Analyze loss trends and claims data to identify opportunities for risk reduction and cost containment,
- Support loss prevention and safety initiatives,
- Assist with the preparation of insurance applications, exposure data, underwriting submissions, audits, and annual policy renewals,
- Coordinate the collection and review of certificates of insurance and other insurance-related documentation,
- Prepare reports and presentations for leadership and board committees regarding insurance, claims, litigation, and loss experience,
- Support strategic planning efforts related to organizational risk and insurance needs,
- May drive for other work-related tasks,
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education, Training and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, Legal Studies, or related field,
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in insurance administration, claims administration, risk management, legal operations, or a related field,
- Working knowledge of commercial insurance programs, including:
- Workers’ Compensation (required),
- General liability, property, automobile, employment, and professional liability claims (preferred),
- Knowledge of claims handling processes, litigation procedures, and insurance terminology,
- Experience in nonprofit, human services, healthcare, education, youth-serving organization, or other highly regulated environments preferred,
- Multi-state experience preferred,
- Analytical and organizational skills,
- Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills,
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
