The Opportunity
HRM is partnering with a well-established public sector organisation to appoint an experienced HR Business Partner for a 12-month maternity cover contract.
Operating nationally, with approximately 350 employees across seven regions, the organisation offers an opportunity to join an established People & Culture function, working closely with senior management and operational leaders to deliver effective people management.
This is a broad, hands-on HR partnering role, combining employee relations, management advisory, organisational change and operational HR delivery.
The Role
Reporting to the Senior HR Manager, the HR Business Partner will provide professional HR advice and support to managers and employees across designated regions and departments.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as a trusted HR partner to senior leaders and line managers, providing practical advice across a range of people matters.
- Managing employee relations issues, including grievances, complaints, performance concerns and workplace matters.
- Supporting managers with performance management, probation reviews and employee engagement.
- Building effective relationships across regional operations to ensure consistent HR support.
- Supporting organisational change initiatives and wider people and culture priorities.
- Ensuring compliance with employment legislation, HR policies and public sector governance requirements.
- Supporting HR audits, payroll preparation, employee records and operational HR processes.
- Assisting with recruitment and selection activity during periods of increased demand.
The Person
We are interested in experienced HR professionals who combine strong employee relations expertise with a practical, solutions-focused approach.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Proven experience in an HR Business Partner.
- Strong employee relations experience and sound knowledge of employment legislation.
- Confidence advising managers and independently managing people-related issues.
- Experience supporting performance management, organisational change and HR compliance.
- Strong interpersonal skills, sound judgement and the ability to build credibility with stakeholders.
- A hands-on approach, with strong organisational skills and proficiency in systems.
Experience in the public sector or a similarly structured environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
Working Arrangements & Benefits
- Hybrid working: Three days office-based, two days remote.
- Flexitime: Flexible start and finish times.
- 35-hour working week: Monday to Friday.
- Contract: 12-month maternity cover, with potential for extension.
