Role Description This is a full-time Intermediate Data Engineer – Regulatory Reporting (Banking) role based in Johannesburg, with a hybrid work model that allows some work from home. The person in this role will design, build, and maintain data pipelines that support regulatory reporting and compliance needs for banking clients. Daily tasks include developing and optimizing ETL processes, modeling and integrating data from multiple source systems, and maintaining data warehouses and data marts used for reporting. The role also involves collaborating with business analysts, compliance specialists, and other engineers to understand regulatory requirements and translate them into robust data solutions. The Intermediate Data Engineer will monitor data quality, troubleshoot data issues, and contribute to improving performance, reliability, and documentation of data flows and reporting datasets.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong data engineering skills, including experience designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines and batch or streaming data processes.
  • Proficiency in data modeling and data warehousing concepts to support regulatory and management reporting / BCBS in a banking environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Extract Transform Load (ETL) tools and frameworks, including developing, optimizing, and scheduling ETL workflows.
  • Ability to perform data analytics to validate data accuracy, reconcile regulatory reporting datasets, and support stakeholders with insights.
  • Experience working in banking or financial services, ideally with exposure to regulatory or statutory reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language commonly used in data engineering (e.g., Python, Java, or Scala).
  • Familiarity with relational databases and, ideally, modern data platforms or cloud services (e.g., data lakes, big data technologies, or cloud-based warehouses).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid team environment.
  • Clear, professional communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
