We're looking for a Developer who can hit the ground running in assisting us with some really great projects. If you are someone who: Communicates well, verbally and in writing Can take an idea from conception to implementation Enjoys complex projects and newer technology Gets things done on time, without a diva attitude Uses AI tooling seriously and critically - you get real leverage from it, and you know exactly where it can't be trusted Has an opinion on coding standards and best practices, and shares it Contributes across the whole SDLC - requirements, planning, development, testing, go-live and support - not just a "programmer/coder" Enjoys helping developers earlier in their careers get better Our Tech Stack includes (but not limited to) Kotlin and Java Spring Boot / Spring Framework Hibernate JPA MySQL Thymeleaf - with JSP still in our older code, which we're actively migrating Gradle, NPM or similar dependency knowledge AWS (EC2, load balancers, SQS), nginx, Cloudflare Bitbucket, Jira and Xray JUnit and Playwright Postman AI development tooling - Claude Code and similar, used properly and daily CSS / SCSS / Less HTML JSON, CSV, XML What will you be required to do? Create intuitive and highly functional products for our customers Create intuitive and highly functional tools for our internal teams Produce quality code Own features end to end - from understanding what's needed through to it running well in production Play a real role in our JSP to Thymeleaf migration Design database schemas and write efficient queries - and know what SQL your ORM is actually running Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features Bug fixing and improving application performance Get real leverage out of AI tooling, and help set the standard for how the team uses it well Attend daily stand-up, sprint kick-off and retrospectives within an Agile/SCRUM environment Be responsible and accountable for the delivery of work that you have committed to Continuously improving your knowledge, at work and at home Break down user stories into tasks and estimations Work in a peer code-reviewed environment. You review my code, I review yours Mentor developers earlier in their careers Become a tech evangelist for systems that make you happy What skills/knowledge and experience will impress us? 5 - 8 years of experience in a similar role Substantial work experience in AWS services, Design Patterns, OO, Procedural or Functional programming styles Comfortable operating what you build - reading logs, tracing a request through a load balancer and nginx to the JVM Solid Spring or Spring Boot experience - dependency injection, configuration, the request lifecycle Impressive experience and knowledge in JavaScript, HTML and CSS (Standard LESS, SCSS or compiled CSS) Good SQL database experience and SQL construction - you can read a slow query and have an opinion about it Hands-on experience in unit testing with frameworks like JUnit End-to-end testing experience with Playwright or similar Hands-on experience with Xray or other test management software - we expect developers to own the quality of what they ship Solid understanding of git and how to use it in your daily workflow Experience with product development tools (i.e. Jira) Server-side templating experience - Thymeleaf, JSP, Freemarker or similar Experience working with legacy code and modernising it incrementally Genuinely effective use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code - not just autocomplete, but restructuring how you work Experience in E-Reading, E-Readers Mobile development experience Mobile web experience What can you expect working at Snapplify?
