Role Description The Intermediate Microsoft SQL Database Administrator (SQL DBA) will manage, maintain, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server databases to support business-critical applications. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing database administration tasks, monitoring performance, implementing backups and recovery strategies, and ensuring data integrity and availability. The role will involve configuring and managing replication, supporting database design activities, and troubleshooting database-related issues in collaboration with development and infrastructure teams. The SQL DBA will ensure adherence to security, compliance, and best practices, while participating in upgrades, migrations, and documentation of database environments. This is a full-time hybrid role based in the Johannesburg Metropolitan Area, with a mix of on-site work and some work-from-home flexibility.
Qualifications

• Strong Microsoft SQL Server skills, including Database Administration and general Databases management.
• Experience with Replication technologies and related high-availability/continuity solutions.
• Proficiency in Database Design, including schema design, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
• Demonstrated ability in Troubleshooting database performance, errors, and connectivity issues.
• Solid understanding of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery practices for SQL Server environments.
• Knowledge of database security, access control, and compliance standards.
• Experience working in hybrid environments and collaborating with cross-functional technical teams.
• Relevant IT qualification or degree (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems) and/or industry certifications in SQL Server or database administration.
• 2–5 years of hands-on experience as a SQL DBA or in a similar database-focused role.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to document processes and configurations clearly.
