The Opportunity McElhanney is seeking an Intermediate Project Controller to join our growing Industrial & Materials team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of complex industrial and multidisciplinary projects across Western Canada. Working alongside Project Managers, Project Directors, technical specialists, and clients, you'll help transform project data into meaningful insights that drive informed decisions, improve project performance, and support successful project delivery. In this role, you'll be responsible for supporting project planning, forecasting, scheduling, earned value analysis, reporting, invoicing, and commercial performance. You'll work closely with project teams to identify trends, manage risks, and provide the visibility needed to confidently deliver projects on schedule and on budget. Initially, this role will provide substantial support to one of McElhanney's major industrial projects while also contributing to a broader portfolio of Industrial & Materials projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a project controls professional who enjoys collaborating with project teams, solving problems, and influencing project outcomes through strong financial, commercial, and project performance insight. Location: This position may be based from the successful candidate's home office or any McElhanney office within British Columbia and is eligible for a flexible hybrid/remote work arrangement. Occasional travel to project sites or offices may be required. Influence Outcomes. Build Your Career. As an Intermediate Project Controller, you'll do more than report on project performance. You'll become a trusted partner to Project Managers and project leadership, helping shape how major projects are planned, monitored, and successfully delivered. You'll have the opportunity to: Support complex industrial and multidisciplinary projects that contribute to infrastructure, resource development, and economic growth across Western Canada. Work closely with Project Managers, technical leaders, Accounting, and clients to influence project outcomes. Develop expertise in project controls, forecasting, scheduling, earned value management, and commercial project delivery. Collaborate with experienced professionals across multiple disciplines and business units. Take ownership of meaningful work while contributing to the continuous improvement of project controls practices across a growing portfolio. What You'll Do Develop and maintain project schedules using Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6, including milestones, dependencies, critical path activities, and forecast updates. Establish and maintain project controls processes, including project baselines, work breakdown structures, budgets, schedules, and performance reporting. Lead monthly project reporting activities, including financial performance, schedule status, forecasting, earned value analysis, and key project metrics. Prepare and maintain project cost forecasts, including ETC, EAC, cash flow projections, committed costs, and variance analysis. Monitor project budgets, labour expenditures, revenue, subconsultant commitments, margins, and overall commercial performance. Support client invoicing, revenue recognition, accounts receivable reviews, and contract compliance requirements. Track scope changes, change orders, commercial commitments, and associated impacts to project budgets and schedules. Identify project risks, trends, and performance variances, and work collaboratively with project leadership to develop corrective actions. Develop dashboards, reports, and project controls tools that provide meaningful insights to project teams, leadership, and clients. Support continuous improvement of project controls, financial management, forecasting, and reporting practices across the Industrial & Materials portfolio. What You'll Bring Must Have Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline; equivalent education and relevant experience may be considered. 5+ years of relevant experience in project controls, project accounting, cost control, scheduling, financial analysis, or a related project delivery role, preferably in engineering, consulting, construction, mining, infrastructure, or industrial environments. Strong experience with project budgeting, forecasting (ETC/EAC), cash flow, variance analysis, earned value, and financial reporting . Experience with Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6 and strong Microsoft Excel skills. Strong understanding of project accounting and commercial management , including revenue, tracking unbilled accruals, invoicing, margins, scope/change management, and contract compliance. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to identify risks and trends, manage competing priorities, and communicate project performance to team members, leadership, and clients. Nice to Have Experience with Power BI or similar data visualization and business intelligence tools. Project management or project controls certifications such as PMP, PMI-SP, or relevant AACE certifications. What Can We Offer You? The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $125,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting.
