About the role
As our Internal Audit Manager, you'll take ownership of delivering internal audits end-to-end, from planning and execution through to reporting and following up on findings. Working closely with the Head of Internal Audit, you'll independently lead complex audits, provide valuable insights into business risks and controls, and build strong relationships with stakeholders across Tyro. You'll also contribute to the annual Internal Audit Plan and have opportunities to engage with senior leaders and the Board Audit Committee.
We're looking for someone who brings strong critical thinking, sound judgement and a proactive, hands-on approach. You'll be confident challenging assumptions, identifying root causes and delivering practical, well-reasoned recommendations. You'll also embrace emerging technology, including AI tools, to enhance audit quality and efficiency while applying independent judgement to ensure outcomes are accurate, meaningful and responsible.
What you'll do
Plan, execute and report on risk-based assurance and advisory engagements across Tyro's payments, banking, technology, finance and operations, in conformance with the IIA Global Internal Audit Standards and Tyro's internal audit methodology.
Scope engagements around the risks that matter most, forming a clear view of what could go wrong, why, and what evidence would prove or disprove that controls are working.
Evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of controls, including against APRA prudential standards (such as CPS 220, CPS 230, CPS 234 and CPS 510), AML/CTF obligations, card scheme rules, and FAR accountability requirements.
Apply professional scepticism: challenge management assertions, test the underlying evidence, distinguish root causes from symptoms and reach independent, defensible conclusions.
Use data analytics and AI-enabled tools to test full populations where practical, identify anomalies and trends, and increase audit coverage and efficiency.
Use generative AI tools effectively and responsibly across the audit lifecycle (research, planning, analysis, workpapers and drafting), validating all AI outputs and complying with Tyro's AI, information security and data handling policies.
Provide assurance over Tyro's own use of AI and automation, including AI governance, model and data quality, third party AI risk and controls over AI-assisted decisions.
Prepare clear, concise audit reports and Board Audit Committee papers that rate issues accurately and set out root cause, impact and agreed management actions.
Track and independently validate the remediation of audit issues before closure.
Contribute to the annual risk-based Internal Audit Plan and to ongoing risk assessment and emerging risk horizon scanning.
Direct and review the work of co-source and external service providers.
Build productive relationships with the business, second line Risk and Compliance, and the external auditor, while maintaining independence and objectivity.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal audit methodology, tools and ways of working, including the adoption of AI within the function.
What you'll bring
7+ years of internal audit, external audit or risk assurance experience in public accounting and/or industry.
Prior financial services or banking industry experience.
Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, information technology or a related discipline.
Professional qualification such as CA, CPA or CIA; CISA or an equivalent technology audit qualification highly regarded.
Strong understanding of internal control concepts and experience applying them to plan, perform, manage and report on the evaluation of business processes, areas and functions.
Critical thinking: demonstrated ability to break down complex and ambiguous problems, question assumptions, weigh competing evidence and reach sound, independent judgements under time pressure.
Effective use of AI: practical, hands-on experience using AI tools (such as enterprise large language model assistants), to improve audit quality and efficiency, with a clear understanding of their limitations, including inaccurate outputs, bias and data confidentiality risk.
Ability to work independently and provide appropriate direction and coaching to other internal audit team members or external service providers.
Advanced verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present to peers and management in a clear and concise manner.
Strong influencing and leadership skills, with the ability to communicate challenging messages constructively and build commitment to appropriate remedial action
Understanding of the IIA Global Internal Audit Standards, COSO and risk assessment practices.
Knowledge of the APRA prudential framework and the Financial Accountability Regime; payments industry experience highly regarded.
Experience managing multiple projects and coaching team members.
