We're looking for an experienced Tax professional to join our growing Global Tax underwriting team. Based in Spain, you'll play a key role in the continued expansion of CFC's international tax insurance offering, working on complex and innovative tax risk solutions across Europe and global markets.
As part of a collaborative and highly specialised team, you'll support the underwriting of tax liability insurance policies covering a broad range of domestic, international and cross-border tax matters. While the team operates globally, including colleagues across North America and UK, this role will be primarily focused on opportunities within the European and international markets.
About the role
As a Tax Underwriter within our International Transaction Liability team, you will assess, structure and underwrite tax insurance solutions for a diverse portfolio of transactional tax risks. Working closely with Senior Underwriters and Team Leaders, you will support the evaluation, pricing and structuring of risks, coordinate underwriting processes, engage with brokers and advisers, and help deliver outstanding service to clients.
As your experience develops, you will take ownership of underwriting opportunities independently while continuing to support more complex transactions alongside senior team members. You will also contribute to broader team initiatives, including portfolio management, business development activities, operational improvements and the ongoing growth of CFC's tax insurance proposition.
Key Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Assess, underwrite and price tax liability insurance risks across a wide range of tax disciplines and jurisdictions.
- Independently lead lower and medium-complexity underwriting opportunities while supporting senior colleagues on larger or more complex risks.
- Review tax advice, legal opinions, transaction documentation and supporting materials to evaluate risk and determine underwriting suitability.
- Analyse the probability, potential exposure and timing of tax liabilities.
- Structure and negotiate bespoke insurance policy terms, endorsements and coverage solutions.
- Prepare underwriting recommendations, pricing models and risk assessments for internal decision-making.
- Instruct and manage external tax advisers and counsel, including preparing briefing materials and reviewing third-party reports.
- Produce indications, quotations, underwriting reports and policy documentation.
- Build strong relationships with brokers, clients and external advisers to support new business and portfolio growth.
- Ensure compliance with CFC's underwriting guidelines, authorities, policies and procedures.
About you
We're seeking an experienced professional with a background in tax advisory, tax law, accounting, transaction services or tax insurance underwriting. Previous tax insurance underwriting experience would be advantageous, but it is not essential.
You will bring strong technical expertise combined with commercial awareness, enabling you to assess complex tax matters and translate technical analysis into clear, practical underwriting recommendations.
- Strong understanding of tax principles, tax risk assessment and commercial decision-making.
- Ability to analyse complex tax issues, transactions and legal structures across multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience reviewing and interpreting tax advice, legal documentation and technical reports.
- Sound judgement and the ability to make balanced, commercially focused underwriting decisions.
- Fluent English, both written and spoken, with the ability to communicate confidently with brokers, clients, advisers and colleagues.
- Excellent written communication skills, including the preparation of underwriting reports, policy documentation and client correspondence.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative and relationship-focused, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and business development.
